Re: [AMRadio] My Amplifer Quest took a strange turn today
I built one of those in about 1970. It was 2 813's in grounded grid. Worked like a champ. I laid mine out a bit different, I had a small rack with the RF deck on the top, power on the bottom. I'm pretty sure it was out of an early 60's ARRL Handbook. I used a rotary inductor so it would tune anything. I ran a Heathkit Apache/SB10 SSB adaptor directly into it. Might need to put a tuner between it and a modern rig. --- Bow [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yup, I headed to the local Radio store to have my Yeasu 2 meter rig looked at (no TX). [AMRadio] Bow's Amp
Looks like a monoband amp to me, with no bandswitch on the front panel, and the untapped coil (fixed setting). The small turns on the coil stock suggest it's neither 75 nor 40 meters. I hesitate to say it's a homebrew 11m amp since the construction is correctly vintage, including the copper screen over the viewing window. So,if I were investigating, I'd be looking at hold handbooks for a monoband CW amplifier, starting at 20 meters and up. Let's see, plate transformer at 400 ma, for a pair of 813s... __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [AMRadio] 40m am
Tom, I assume you know that you are listening to the 7.290 No Traffic net. With the sunspot cycle as it is, they have complained about Bill/W8VYZ interfering with their net There is some activity on 7290-95 after they are gone, just tune up there occasionally. On 7.160 a group meets each weekend at around 2 PM and are located in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. With the propagation you cannot hear all of them but they are there. W5KGZ, WW5K, K5RB and others. They are an amiable group and would welcome your participation. They also meet on 3.6?? in the afternoon. Check this afternoon around 2 and monitor until you hear one of them 73 Jim W5JO does anyone do am on 40m on sat mornings? since 7290 is busy with ssb net i was curious if theres any am anywhere else on the band... who knows i am thinking of taking up the cause and start a net/roundtable on the old spam freq, 7160 but all i have is 40-100 watts and a nvis dipole...anyone interested in joining? tom in texas __ AMRadio mailing list List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Partner Website: http://www.amfone.net Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html Post: mailto:AMRadio@mailman.qth.net To unsubscribe, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the message body.

RE: [AMRadio] 40m am
Tom, On the east coast, 7285 on up is typical when the band is in good shape, which its not been lately. Now that spring is here, the weekend radio thing is way down on the list of things to do. My ham radio will be limited to learning CW at speed and playing with the K2 rig, both at night after dark. This has been the worst winter on 40 meters I remember, very little activity...
