Re: [AMRadio] Hallicrafters R-12 speaker
Hello John, No, I won't be at Belton. That's a pretty good drive for me here in north central Ar. I will be going to Mena however next weekend. Great on the SX-28A! They are a fine old rig. When you have time, I'd like to see photos of yours. Matter of fact, I'd like to compare some areas in them on the bottom. Let me know if I can be of any help on your restoration too. 73 Brian / wa5am On 9/4/09, John King k5...@yahoo.com wrote: Thanks Brian. That is a beautiful job!!! [AMRadio] Collins Discussion on 20 Meters
Please join us each Sunday beginning tomorrow at 1500 EDST or 1900 UTC for a round-table discussion on Collins radio restoration and repair, including a swap and shop session. If the frequency is occupied, then, tune to either side of 14.263 Mhz. The moderator will be myself, with assistance from other operators, using the Collins Radio Association call of W3CRA, beaming west with our 5 element Wilson at the Collins Radio Center, near Johnstown, PA This is not a net but merely a get-together of Collins owners that you may find interesting and informative. We should conclude operation at approximately 1545 EDST or 1945 UTC so we can give up the frequency up for other operations. We will be joined by a number of Collins owners who have received this message as a blind copy. Re: [AMRadio] Hallicrafters R-12 speaker
I agree Bob. Maybe Brian intends to put a pair of 805 between the receiver and the speaker and play some guitar. At any rate I'm sure he has his reasons. I might go with this one (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=290-486), and even it is an over kill but selection of 12 inch speakers with less than a 20 watt rating are few and far between. Many times I will cut a board to fit where the speaker goes and then mount a smaller speaker to the board. In most cases the smaller speaker has better sound due to modern manufacturing and tech specs than the older one. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=290-486 73, John -Original Message- From: amradio-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:amradio-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Bob Peters Sent: Friday, September 04, 2009 6:02 PM To: 'Discussion of AM Radio in the Amateur Service' Subject: Re: [AMRadio] Hallicrafters R-12 speaker WOW That is way overkill for Ham Radio ...Bob -Original Message- From: amradio-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:amradio-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of WA5AM Sent: Friday, September 04, 2009 5:45 PM To: Discussion of AM Radio in the Amateur Service Subject: Re: [AMRadio] Hallicrafters R-12 speaker This one here: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?DID =7Partnumber=290-834ctab=2#Tabs 73 Brian On 9/4/09, John Coleman j...@pctechref.com wrote: I'm curious Brian, what is the one that you intend to get? That is great John but look at the freq response of that speaker...Great low end but only goes to 4 K on the high side... Some of these SW Stations are going out to 12 and 15 K...Great for AM Amateur Voice use..Check out this 8 inch at http://www.penton-usa.com/finalpdf/LCS8XT72.pdf ... It goes out to 16K and cost is $18. Wholesale...Pro Net is $32...Take off the grill and transformer...The tranny is great as a 500 ohm to 8 ohm conversion. Throw the grill away LOL... Like I said to Brian use a pair of these and they will rock from a push pull amp or even a single ended amp... Re: [AMRadio] Hallicrafters R-12 speaker
Some of these SW Stations are going out to 12 and 15 K International regulations generally call for a sharp cutoff at 4500 Hz, down 35 dB at 5000 with a 35 dB minimum after that. In some areas 6000 Hz was used. If some do the 12k or 15k thing, please tell us the call letters and frequency. - Jim W4ENE - Original Message - From: Bob Peters rwpet...@swbell.net To: 'Discussion of AM Radio in the Amateur Service' amradio@mailman.qth.net Sent: Saturday, September 05, 2009 12:09 PM Subject: Re: [AMRadio] Hallicrafters R-12 speaker That is great John but look at the freq response of that speaker...Great low end but only goes to 4 K on the high side...
