Just one small problem...they're ALL woofers. Keep searching though, Parts Express does have full-range replacement speakers. You can also check MCM Electronics. You'll likely want a full-range to replace your communications receiver speaker as most woofer's frequency range is limited to about 3.5 kHz to 4 kHz. Just barely enough to pass voice response so it would sound a little muddy. 73 de W5SAW, Steve White CL in NC wrote: Here's a page with a $20 - 10 woofer. http://www.parts-express.com/wizards/searchResults.cfm?srchExt=CATsrchCat=483 __ Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net AMRadio mailing list Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/amradio@mailman.qth.net/ List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Post: AMRadio@mailman.qth.net To unsubscribe, send an email to amradio-requ...@mailman.qth.net with the word unsubscribe in the message body. The re-cone option isn't as expensive as you may think. I had a nice pair of JBL L-100's that I got from Dennis, W7QHO when he moved away from Maryland. Both the foam speaker surrounds were shot, as were the dust covers on the speaker coils. A place in Pennsylvania re-did them both for $60. Even if today it's $100, that's for TWO speakers and within your price range for the single. email me off-list and I'll put you in touch paul __ Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net AMRadio mailing list Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/amradio@mailman.qth.net/ List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Post: AMRadio@mailman.qth.net To unsubscribe, send an email to amradio-requ...@mailman.qth.net with the word unsubscribe in the message body. That is the problem I ran into while I was doing the initial search. All the big ones are woofers and I saw some that cut off at 2.5K. Hiya Bob, It just so happens that in re-arranging the shack yesterday, I found a cabinet with an 8 speaker in there that I want to use. If you guys want some real base response I have a pair of 30 inch sub woofers each mounted in 36 cubic foot enclosures with 1 1/2 inch thick walls. The freq resp. of that $20 woofer is up to 2200 cycles. There was a 'Pro' speaker that went to 6600 cycles. Can a 10 diameter speaker, achieve a wide response when it has to move that large of a cone? The single 8 and 10 inch speakers in the old cabinet TV's and radios, I wonder what they would have tested out to freq. resp. wise. Always thought those old radios and TV's sounded good because it was bassy due to the large speaker. When you cranked up the treble, if it even had that option, it would get tinny sounding and lower audio out. They never did any fancy encloser either, just a hole in the cabinet somewhere and some wood screws. I still use an 8 speaker from a 1950's era Silvertone BW console TV, and still sounds great. Forget foam suspended speakers, the air pollution always attacks the foam and they give up the ghost. But, that seems to be all you can find in the larger speakers now-a-days. What size is your studio anyway? :) Jim/W5JO - Original Message - From: Gary Schafer garyscha...@comcast.net If you guys want some real base response I have a pair of 30 inch sub woofers each mounted in 36 cubic foot enclosures with 1 1/2 inch thick walls. These will supply true 16 Hz response with very low distortion. And they will shake your pant legs if you desire. They are for sale if someone is interested. For a general purpose speaker a car radio oval speaker is hard to beat. 73 Gary K4FMX __ Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net AMRadio mailing list Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/amradio@mailman.qth.net/ List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Post: AMRadio@mailman.qth.net To unsubscribe, send an email to amradio-requ...@mailman.qth.net with the word unsubscribe in the message body. So I thought about shellac and toilet paper or something similar, but am not that good with my hands. So I looked a couple of places on the web. I haven't looked for a speaker since about 1959, and needless to say, one like I would like to have is nearly $100. Now am I crazy or is this high? All I would like to have is a round, mid-range speaker that is 10 inches in diameter which won't require I sell my home to buy. Can any one steer me to a place other than what I find on the search engines. The first 10 pages or so is all full of speaker sellers who pay to be listed and list only stuff the audio nut would buy. Jeeze!
