[AMRadio] new tubes for sale

2008-01-29 Thread zuu6k
Hi Guys:
We have acquired another batch of tubes, some new, some used. There are
too many to list them all at one time. This is a list of new tubes in
the original boxes. We will list the used ones in a couple of weeks,
after
the dust clears from this sale. We will warrant all of these tubes for 30
days. We priced them at or below 1/2 of what the big boys are asking. Any
defects should be returned post-paid and we will make a refund. To
minimize the handling, we are setting a minimum cost of $10 per order.
Thank you.

 Ed,

I always admire those about to undertake such a
project. I don't have a circuit for you, but I will
share a few ideas. If you do use grid driven, it will
likely need to be class AB1 (zero drive power to tube,
i.e, just voltage), or class Ab2 where the grid draws
a little grid current on modulation peaks. In either
case, 25 watts will be way too much. Given the above
choices, I'd use Ab1, and a passive 50 ohm grid input
resistor, and scale the drive just short of grid
current. Still you will need a grid bias supply, and
screen supply in addition to a plate supply. That is a
lot of stuff, but hey, why not if you want to do it?

Another approach, and I'm being a little simplistic
here, is to think of a 4-400 in grounded grid as
something similar to or about 4/5 a 3-500Z. A Heath
SB-220 does legal limit AM with under 25 watts
(carrier) of drive with two 3-500Z's in parallel G-G.
No screen supply needed, and bias if necessary is easy
with a power zener diode. So a 4-400 configured as a
GG linear should be good for 150 to 200 watts am
carrier output, and only need 10-15 watts carrier for
drive. My figures are a SWAG, but I'd bet they are in
 the ballpark.

 Thanks for reading,

Re: [AMRadio] Slip up mast for 80 meter antenna

2005-07-30 Thread zuu6k
Ron;

I have installed dozens of them for TV antennas through the years. Up to
50 Ft (5 sections). They are just made from electrical thin-wall conduit
(EMT). You can make your own cheaper. Paint a wide stripe around the
bottom of each inner section about a foot from the end. Pull slowly and
when you see the stripe, stop and insert the 1/4 cotter pin. You can
make a base from 2 each 6 lengths of angle iron with a bolt through them
and the bottom of the outside section. Good luck.

[AMRadio] power ratings

2005-07-11 Thread zuu6k
I thought I understood these things, But I have confused me little self.
I need some clear thinking here. I have a rice box rated for 100 watts
SSB or 25 Watts AM. I believe the 100 watts is PEP while the 25 watts is
RMS (continuous carrier). I want to add a linear amplifier to bring the
25 watts AM up considerably. I see the Ameritron AL-811 is rated for 600
watts SSB and 400 watts AM. Is this 400 watts PEP or RMS. If PEP that
means the RMS rating is 100 watts, the same as my DX-100. Also it
requires 75 watts of drive. Is this PEP or RMS. If RMS my rice box at 25
watts won't drive it. I am thinking the 75 watts of drive is PEP and my
rice box with 100 watts PEP in AM will drive it. Can someone clarify this
for me? Thanks.

[AMRadio] power ratings

2005-07-11 Thread zuu6k
I want to thank everyone who responded to my question. The consensus of
opinion is that the AL-811 runs 100 watts of carrier on AM with 400 watts
PEP. This with 3X811 while my DX-100 does the same thing with 2X6146.
Doesn't sound right, does it? I have a junker HW-100 with a good PA
section. How much power could I run as a linear amp using 2X6146 and what
rating power supply would I need? Thanks.

Re: [AMRadio] Heath SB Problem!

2005-07-07 Thread zuu6k
Hi Bob;

I have fixed several with this problem. Use a 1/4 inch shaft (from an old
volume control, maybe) about 1/4 inch longer than your shaft. Get 2 each
flat 3/8' sheet metal nuts (True Value Hardware, etc) and a 1/4 ID X
3/8 OD rubber grommet. Force the nuts (facing each other) onto the
grommet. Force the grommet onto the end of the shaft. Install the same as
original. Good luck.

[AMRadio] FS: Complete AM station...Pick-up only

2005-06-15 Thread zuu6k
Gentlemen;

If you cannot arrange to pick this equipment up at Simi Valley, CA or do
not want the entire lot, there is no need to read further. I am offering
it first to the members of the reflectors. If it does no sell here, I
will put it on that on-line auction site. If it does not sell there, I
will break it up and ship it at the buyers expense for professional
packing and shipping. I know I could get more if I was willing to break
it up and ship it. Due to circumstances I am going for a quick, clean
sale.

Due to failing health, I am reducing my equipment inventory. I am
starting with the largest, heaviest and most difficult to pack and ship:
my AM station. It consists of the following items, all in good operating
condition. I use this station for the weekly AMI net and the monthly CCA
net. I get good reports on my audio.

Heathkit DX-100B transmitter
Hallicrafters SX-42 receiver
Electro-voice model 620 mic
Homebrew 10 speaker in wooden case
Homebrew 12 Amp voltage reducer
Heathkit IM-2410 frequency counter
RCA WO-33A scope / mod mon

Price: $500 cash and carry.

If you are a sincere buyer please write for detailed description and pix.
Please don't waste your time and mine if you cannot meet the above
conditions. Thank you very much.
