Been said enough several times over. Now, can we get on to something
interesting here?

Darn - I noticed, too late, that I had forgotten to trim off the "original
message" text when I replied to a recent request for
sources of trick hardware for pots, etc. I am well aware of the need to clip
off that text, and I have clippped it off in the past,
but I forgot all about it in my haste to reply.

Excellant point Geoff.

I'm sure you know the one I'm talking about, so I won't bother to
include the relevant clipped quoted text for context!!

[AMRadio] Just a refresher...

2006-08-21 Thread W5OMR/Geoff

Gentlemen.

I know Brian has said it, and said it (and said it some more)... maybe
just one more time will help someone else understand.

Brian is attempting to create an archive of the AM Reflector postings,
and keep the technical discussions for posterity, and future reference.
Can you imagine how much cleaner and easier the search would be, if all
of the messages were trimmed up, and the extra text removed?

Over the course of a month, can you all imagine how much space would be
saved? Now, I know we're all networked together, these days. Combined,
there's probably enough storage space between all the computers that are
networked together that we could have 100x umpteen grazillion (thanks,
Tony - good word! :-)) Terrabytes of storage space available and our
little repository would look like nothing more than an insignificant
blip in the data stream. Unfortunately, we don't have access to such
massive amounts of space, and it seems to be one man making all of
(spreading arms around in a sweeping gesture) -this- work. (well, 2
now... if I could ever -see- Paul -do- something *snicker*)

So, let's all make a concerted effort, shall we?

Personally, *I* prefer message posting -below- the relative quoted
text. Some of you argue that 'I don't need to read that text all over
again', and the valid point was made at one time, that if there is to be
an archive kept, that my quoted text is not needed, if it's going to be
saved and archived. Is that true, when searching for a message with
particular text in it? Say you're searching for the phrase "250TH".
So, you go to the repository and search. If you find a message, and
then see a reply with your text, but no way of determining what context
it was meant because there was nothing quoted from before, all you can
do is wonder to yourself "what the hell was he talking about here, and
does it apply to me?" Hypothetically speaking, of course.
That's why, I think, there should -some- quotation of the relevant text,
to what you want to reply to.

So, please... trim up the un-needed text, when replying to messages on
the list.

If you (collectively) want to flame me for making such a 'brash' and/or
boring observation, then do have respect for others and aim your
flame-throwers at me, OFF list.
