Re: [AMRadio] McMartin BA-1K transmitter ---------FS

2003-11-08 Thread Neal Newman
Hey Bob Don't Knock that BE AM1A
its a great sounding little transmitter we have one over at WVPO that's what
replaced
 the Collins 300G .
BTW its normal for that BE AM1A to come with a Stereo Card unless they asked
for them not to include the card... that's what
the rep for BE told me at the NAB show in Philly last month. the stereo card is
only $850 if it didn't come with it..
usually its in there and the switch is off.
Please tell me that they did get the card.. Please..

Loose wire?flaky tube or tube socket?Plate voltage missing in the oscillator
when it wont fire up or is there no filament action?

Oh geesh!...sounds like your RCA is trying to tell you to spend more time
with it...lol...its lonely lol.
Oh..as far as the McMartin goeswell looks like it could go for a steal
right now.

Anyhow...I'm still in awe here over this new BE AM 1A. Wow is it a neat box!
Shame though in about another 50 years they wont be so ham friendly like our
RCA's,Gates,McMartins,Raytheons,Collins and so on and so on. I think before its
over with I'll end up with some sort of radio museum here.
Couple of projects in the works along with the rebuild of the AM station here
...one is to figure out how to as gently as possible..how to move this
Raytheon [which is now mine] into its new home in about 2 to 4 months from
now...and
locate some frequency agile and somewhat portable AM BCB transmitter ---100
to 250 watts at least. The company here is not wanting a backup rig
here...which really bothers me. They apparently havent seen the things I've
seen..but
there is no budging them on this unfortunately.Well the other AM that I
maintain
also has no backup rig..and you know the RCA there is as bout as old as yours
Neal. The tube rigs dont bother me when they go down...you can find the parts
everywhere. When the solid state rig goes down...lightning or whatever..you just
cant run next door to rat shack or the neighbor ham to grab a part...you get
on the phone and next day air it from the manufacture, which leaves you off the
air for a day at least. Not my idea of a good time you know...lol.
Anyhow..the portable tranny would come in...and keep the station on the air
til parts came in...it'll belong to my company and when all is fix..my tranny
goes back with me to wait for the next call to service where ever it is needed.
Now gotta write-up and get a reception report from Surf City NJ typed up and

Re: [AMRadio] McMartin BA-1K transmitter ---------FS

2003-11-08 Thread Chris
Hi Neal
I think you can save it by just chipping the old one out and grinding the
broken one to fit exactly the shape of the inside base
plate. It should work without adhesive once the tower is set on it, gravity
keeps it in place and the glue is more like a cushion. As
for you BTA you can use an outboard rig or generator to to supply the drive and
act as a vfo.

2003-11-08 Thread Neal Newman
 Hey Bob...a few spare 4-400's??
I could use a few...
I had the RCA BTA500R running last week Now its dead again..
Osc still wont power up... Frustrated YEP...the oscillator is driving me nuts..
sometimes it works other times it wont.
Ijust picked up a Tower base insulator to Build a 160 meter vert. But it
arrived Broken. the guy that shipped it says he may have a
nother one for me? Im keeping my fingers crossed.
you can see it at http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/wttm/insul.html
you can tell your boss just put it on a pallet and ship me that McMartin with
a
special Note that says Happy Birthday here is a Gift LOL
also the motor that is used to turn the variable resistor for powerup/down
seems frozen..
