Well the 'desk seller is rather prissy about who he sells to. He
obviously does not know that there are those with professional FCC
general radiotelephone licenses who can and do collect and operate all
kinds of radio gear large ans small, their 'tecchie' ham licenses
notwithstanding. I generally won't do business with such a pompous
person. What do you do with your collection of HF transmitters a Tech
ham license? use a dummy load.. This has never diminished the fun of
restoring AM rigs for me. Geez the attitudes of some people. No wonder
I stay on 6 meters! :-P
now that I have complained, how about this globe king article, I can't
seem to find it on the CCA site. Anyone have a URL for it directly?

Well, this may not apply in this case, but the rip-off artists on eBay that I have recognized seem to fit into a very distinct pattern. They are selling an expensive product at a price that is almost too good to be true using Buy-it-Now. When you buy, they want paid only one way--a Western Union Money Order. Never, ever agree to this. Walk away. Always insist on using a credit card with buyer protection or PayPal with buyer protection. You could use a personal check but that is risky. A USPO money order is useless as protection--you will never get anything back if it is cashed by a bad guy--and they only go up to $700 anyway. Other key signs to look for are that you get no valid phone number or address from the seller and when you send them an e-mail, it seems to bounce back to you--but they still reply to it! All of this was pretty well summarized in Fortune Magazine about 8 months ago.
