Re: [AMRadio] Original Ranger

2009-11-08 Thread Greg Mijal
I just finished up restoring a Viking Valiant and painted the cabinet flat
black. It looks pretty good and was a lot cheaper that trying to match up
the deep maroon that Johnson used. The only hard part of it was stripping
the old paint off. Probably $5 in material to get a decent cabinet.

I have heard others say what Bry told you. Don't know where you are,
but a larger auto parts store should have that stuff in a spray can. It
is a Pontiac color from 1959 IIRC. If you can find it in Dupli-Color
all the better. The automotive paint they sell in cans comes with a
nozzle that puts out a fan shape rather than the round pattern. Much
better for things like you want to do.

If you don't have any luck with them either having it, or ordering (NAPA
is a good source) then you can take a chip at least 1 square to someone
with a computer matching machine and get the formula. Again a larger
auto parts store should be able as would a larger Sherwin-Williams
 store.

Does anyone know where to purchase Ranger paint for the cabinet or
 have the
color code and the Mfg to buy from?

Phil - I found the burgundy paint at an auto parts place with no problem
about 3 years ago. It was a darn good match too.
