2009-07-31 Thread Nigel Gunn G8IFF/W8IFF
Anything with FTDI chips are OK.
Whatever you buy, be sure that you can get the device driver for it.
Not all device drivers are approved and will run with Windows Vista.

2009-07-31 Thread Norman W Osborne VE3CJE
Hello everyone,

I am building an interface for a 736r doppler control and I will be needing

a USB-to-Serial adapter.

Looking on ebay I see many choices and prices.

Have any of you bought any of these adapters??

Any suggestions appreciated.

73,

Norman.

Hey Bob,

Since the Grand Old Girl went back to "toggling" between modes, it has seemed
to me the switch has been occurring faiyl consistently between 0400 UTC and
0600 UTC - but I do see the discrepancies you alliuded to, which suggest more
inconsistencies lately. I'm going to continue to expect the change to occur in
the window mentioned above until the log shows me more evidence that she has
become really erratic.

[amsat-bb] CP6 satellite, data decoding using CPX data decoder

2009-07-31 Thread Dr. Jay Garlitz
Check out http://moredbs.atl.calpoly.edu/satellites/CP6/passes/2875. Six
packets downloaded on one pass with new settings in IC-910. This was an
attended pass with fine tuning the signal manually using the CW beacon as a
guide. The best automated pass so far was three packets decoded. TLE in
online primer located at http://www.gatorradio.org/CP6_tutorial.pdf gave
reception from horizon to horizon and packet decoding (adequate signal
strength) above 9 degrees.

My home ground station is based on the same equipment as W4DFU at the
University of Florida Club station. Students will join me there tomorrow to
do the same, then set-up for the newly launched cubesats. UF swampsat is
under construction. See www.gatorradio.org
for club info.

If we extrapolate the orbits forward a few days, they come over in the
following order.
D, C, E, F, G.
That gives us the order of their respective masses.
Whoever built it should be able to tell us which bits are which.

The https://goby.nrl.navy.mil/ANDE/Amateur_Radio.html web site refers to a

[amsat-bb] ANDE-2 telemetry periods

2009-07-31 Thread Henk, PA3GUO
Here are 3 packets decoded by Mike, DK3WN:
2009-07-31 13:19:31.750 UTC: from POLLUX-1 to CQ via TELEM:> MEMS
2009-07-31 13:19:58.270 UTC: from POLLUX-1 to CQ via TELEM:> SYST
2009-07-31 13:20:37.730 UTC: from POLLUX-1 to CQ via TELEM:> MEMS

Based on these I conclude the following transmission periods:
MEMS > SYST: 27 seconds (58-31)
SYST > MEMS: 39 seconds (37-58)
Total: 27 + 39 = 66 seconds for a complete package (the 33 seconds is an
average therefore)

This corresponds with my audio analysis, which btw also shows Castors 30
seconds period:
http://www.pa3guo.com/ande2_periods_31jul09.jpg

(you see in the spectrum the various packets from Castor & Pollux)

2009-07-31 Thread David Johnson
Hi Mike,

In principle yes, you might have some packets that other people have
missed.

The problem is that the packets are time-stamped when they go into the
database within a few seconds of actual receipt. (propagation time
across the internet).

So in reality, if there is a delay of more than a couple of minutes it
could cause problems.

Better to decode and publish here for the moment, I think.
