Hi George.

I watched the Interorbital presentation at Cal Poly at the weekend. (via
the web and not in person sadly)

I thought I saw $25,000 on a multiple cubesat launch to 620km.
Perhaps they have an eye on the QB50 (50 cubesats to 320km) and others
waiting to fly. It's a big market.

They are starting testing this fall with some sub orbital flights. First
orbital flight listed for March 2011 but that may slip depending on the
tests.

The presentation is probably available via u-stream / or cubesat.com

Thanks

2010-08-10 Thread Bob Schmidt
The last couple of passes that I have tried seemed to start well - I hear
stations using the repeater - but then some sort of digital signal takes
over and no other voice activity is heard. Is this some command work being
done by the ground controllers?

Thanks

I'm trying to find a concise report of the conference, or a better video
recording host website.. or better still, did anyone from Amsat attend the
conference, and would you share your conference experience please?

With regard to Interorbital Systems, did they give a presentation at this
conference?

During the first and last minutes of a pass over North America, AO-27 is in
Digital Mode; all you will hear is packet. In-between is when the AO-27 is in
Analog FM mode.

2010-08-10 Thread Rick - WA4NVM
Hi Bob,

I think you are new to the satellites, since I haven't heard you on the
birds yet.
Welcome to the fun world of sat's.

Now to your question. AO-27 is on a timer sequence, 20 seconds of digital
 - then 7 minutes of voice - then back to 1 full minute of digital - then
off.

You may be hearing it switch back to digital mode at the end of the 7 minute
repeater mode. Just my guess. There are a number of sites that give you
the
times for the daily passes. One of them,
http://www.ao27.org/AO27/listing.shtml
is currently about ten minutes off. (late) Another one you may want to
check out is
http://sites.google.com/site/ao27satellitescheduler/ a program you can
download
and use on the daily bases.

I hope this helps and we all will look for you in the future.

73,
Rick WA4NVM

[amsat-bb] Former NASA head on Downed Plane

2010-08-10 Thread Clint Bradford
A private aircraft carrying a former head of NASA and, possibly, a former U.S.
senator crashed Monday night in a rugged stretch of Alaska. The accident left
at least five people dead.

EADS North America said its chief executive officer, Sean O'Keefe, a former
head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, was a passenger on
the aircraft.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A former NASA spokesman says ex-NASA chief Sean
O'Keefe survived the plane crash in Alaska that killed former Sen. Ted

Glenn Mahone says O'Keefe's teenage son, Kevin, was also among the four
survivors.

The plane crashed Monday night near a remote fishing village in Alaska,
killing five.

The former spokesman for the space agency says he has talked to
O'Keefe's family. They told him that O'Keefe and his son had some broken
bones and other injuries.
