[amsat-bb] Re: 5,000th Contact
Bob, Congrats and keep up the great interest into sats. I came back from a hamfest yesterday after showing our flag at an AMSAT table with several older AMSAT members telling their stories about satellite contacts on the HEO's. They are not presently members and I couldn't convince them to return to our ranks. They said they sold their satellite equipment as they are not around to make a contact when the satellites are overhead. One even said he can't get up at 2am anymore just to talk to the 2 guys on the satellite. Please go to hamfests and club meetings to gloat about your contacts and try and re-excite a new membership or twono memberships equals no new satellites. [amsat-bb] Re: AEA PK-96
Hi Jerry, While I don't know the TNC personally, from a quick look at the specs it should work fine at either 1200 or 9600. Here's the catch--there really aren't any digital satellites to work :( With the fairly quick decline of AO-51 (which is the only 9600 bird still functional at 9600, but rarely running that mode...) I'm not sure I'd spend a bunch of money to get ready for satellite packet activity. There was a bit of 1200 activity with HO-68, but it has been running a beacon only for many weeks now. If you want to copy IO-26 telemetry, you'll need a PSK modem for that (or use MixW). Syes, I've been running Wisp under Win7 just fine, but there really isn't much you can do with a TNC and satellites righ now! Who knows what the future holds for digital satellites...hopefully something! 73, Mark N8MH At 12:22 PM 5/8/2011 -0500, N0JY wrote: >All y'all, > >I've not yet done any digital satellite work, and I'm getting an itch to >head that direction. [amsat-bb] Re: AO-51, on old friend.
In the past...like way past...didn't AMSAT keep a satellite "alive" by positioning a BAUDOT RTTY loop in Canada to fire up the satellite for the American continents, at least for declining passes? Of course the reset code may have been much simpler then, but computers make automatic timing and response much easier now. The further north the better for declining passes around the world Of course the same could be said for ascending passes from southern "pole" type areas. Roger WA1KAT On 5/7/2011 9:07 AM, Alan P.
