[amsat-bb] Re: [Re: Prospero] Commanding Error

2011-10-26 Thread Tony Abbey
Hi Roger

Nothing other than the chuff- chuff on the 1600 pass. And as you said, its also
there with Prospero over the horizon. I 'm not using a beam presently - using a
360deg parasitic Lindenblad for circular polarisation, but it is susceptible to
all the high power pager stuff nearby. Its just strange that there are elements
shifting in frequency in the chuff chuff like a signal from a real satellite.
Have just come back from a Rosat re-entry celebration!

[amsat-bb] NASA TV to Air ISS Cargo Ship Arrival

2011-10-26 Thread Clint Bradford
MEDIA ADVISORY: M11-217

NASA TELEVISION TO AIR SPACE STATION CARGO SHIP ARRIVAL

HOUSTON -- NASA Television will provide live launch coverage of a
Russian Progress cargo spacecraft on Sunday, Oct. 30, from the
Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. NASA TV coverage will begin at 5
a.m. CDT, with launch scheduled for 5:11 a.m. (4:11 p.m. Baikonur
local time).

The International Space Station (ISS) Progress 45 spacecraft will
deliver almost three tons of food, fuel and supplies to the space
station three days later.

This will be the first launch of a Progress vehicle and its Soyuz
booster since the ISS Progress 44 vehicle was lost on Aug. 24 due to
a third stage engine failure.

Expedition 29 Commander Mike Fossum and Flight Engineers Satoshi
Furukawa and Sergei Volkov will monitor the spacecraft's automatic
docking to the station's Pirs Docking Compartment at 6:40 a.m. on
Wednesday, Nov. 2. NASA TV coverage of docking will begin at 6:15
a.m. on Nov. 2.

The undocking of an older resupply ship, ISS Progress 42, from the
Pirs docking port on Saturday, Oct. 29, will not be broadcast live.

[amsat-bb] 5 in EM55 info

2011-10-26 Thread wa4hfn
In an effort to help increase interest in satellites, we have
created a new award for working five (5) different hams in the
EM55 grid.

You do not have to be in your home grid to count the stations
worked. There are several satellite ready hams in EM55. Here is
the current list that we know of:
WA4NVM, WA4HFN, WB4LHD, WA4OVO, KI4OTG, KD4NOQ, KJ4BIX, AJ4KF, W5KUB, N4MGT
AA4HV K4FEG

Send your log to WA4NVM or WA4HFN for checking, along with your
current mailing address. The award is free and should any
donations be sent, they will be forwarded to AMSAT along with
your call and name.

This award will be effective 1 June 2011, therefore, all contacts
must be on or after this date

2011-10-26 Thread Roger Duthie

Tony -

We heard something intriguing after about 14:43:40 UT as the tracking
said the satellite was on it's way off to the north pole.

The 'chuff-chuff' description reminds me of a sound we seem to hear
quite a lot. Quite often it coincides with a pass, though I think we
hear the same (or very similar) during times when Prospero is over the
horizon.

We are going to try the next pass at ~16:00UT if you want to listen in
again. Our new ploy is to wait for the last most opportune moment to
command, as the power _may_ be at it highest (longest charging of
batteries, potentially). So, we'll do short commanding at above 30o el,
and listen.

There was a brief item about Prospero near the end of the latest Space

It mentions the involvement of hams in this project.

Hi Thomas,

Somewhere in the year 2001 I have also been busy with this oscarlator system.
It is very interresting and works quiet well, when you have some experience in
using it.
It looks outdated, but for ham radio it is good enough, and the most advantage
is that is does not use power, cables or fragile parts/software.

On my older website there are still some maps and graphs available, which might
be usefull to other hams.
Please check the link:
