On another list it was mentioned that they use the 10 MHz band for control
purposes.

They apparently are using a Small Wonder Labs QRP transceiver and the onboard
microcomputer decodes CW commands.

[amsat-bb] muTek GNLA432e info

2012-03-28 Thread Ab4ab
Hello,
Some time ago I found a muTek GLNA432e at eBay. It was inadvertently
advertised as a 144 MHz unit and was also supplied with a SBLA144e schematic.
So
I'm at a loss how to troubleshoot this nonworking unit. I have searched the
net but found nothing useful. If anyone knows anything about this unit, e.g.,
transistor used or even better the schematic, please let me know. It is a
vintage well built 1983 unit with RF sense switching so I really would like
to get it up and running.
Thanks

Thank you, Trevor. There are no technical details of the mission that I could
find on the Project Blue Horizon website, so I wondered.

[amsat-bb] Re: North Korean Polar weather satellite

2012-03-28 Thread George Henry
Wanna bet that something happens to the satellite and it never reaches orbit
or becomes functional, or that there is some failure during the flight (after
they've proven their long-range missile) that requires self-destruct?

 All

I remember those days as an SWL when KCNA messages (amongst others) flowed
across the monitor screen in green letters... if you have nostalgia for those
days and are also interested in the planned polar orbiter then I've just
prdcuced these extracts from the KCNA news flow.

They suggest that there will be a launch of a polar-orbiter weather
 satellite
around April 15th and that they have notified the relevant authorities about
it. Would someone like to do a FOIA request for a copy of their notification?

If there is a bird and she is a polar orbiter transmitting data maybe it'll
 be
in APT format, although I think the recent Russian launches are in a format
incomprehensible to anyone else, so would not guarantee it.

[amsat-bb] Re: North Korean Polar weather satellite

2012-03-28 Thread Martyn Williams
Most bets are on a satellite never appearing on radar, but that won't stop
the DPRK news agencies from announcing a successful launch.

Unless the rocket explodes in view of foreign TV cameras, which have
apparently been invited, they won't admit failure.

[amsat-bb] Re: North Korean Polar weather satellite

2012-03-28 Thread Martyn Williams
Andy,

I obtained the launch notification and posted it last week. Here are
the details we know so far:

http://www.northkoreatech.org/2012/03/20/itu-confirms-dprk-satellite-launch-plans/
http://www.northkoreatech.org/2012/03/21/exclusive-north-koreas-expected-rocket-trajectory/

Today the state news agency added a little more information:

http://www.northkoreatech.org/2012/03/28/more-on-north-koreas-satellite-mission/

But that might be all we get.

In 2009 a satellite launch never produced a satellite and there is
considerable skepticism from the international community that this is
anything more than a long-range missile test.

In 2009 the North Koreans stated It is sending to the earth the
melodies of the immortal revolutionary paeans Song of General Kim Il
Sung and Song of General Kim Jong Il and measured information at
470 MHz and didn't get any more technical than that. Like the
satellite, the songs were never detected.

I don't have any idea on weather satellite formats, but it could be an
all-North Korean one. Russia has not traditionally helped the country
with its technical development in recent years. If help came from
anywhere it is likely to have come from China.

Hope that helps,

Martyn

our sister team in Japan (and any other obsrevation sites).

[amsat-bb] Party Balloon Long Duration Mission

2012-03-28 Thread Bob Bruninga
Launch Thurs PM maybe... Tune up those 10m beams.

If we are lucky, we hope to launch our 6 party-balloon long duration payload
Thursday evening around sunset EST.It has no APRS, just a 10m CW telemetry
system. We will have to locate it by signal strength and beam headings only.

If you have APRS you can uplink your beam heading via APRS so we can see the DF
solution maybe...

More tomorrow (again, if we are lucky). It will only be at 15,000 feet or so,
vulnerable to weather and not so great winds...

The battery could last 10 days
