[amsat-bb] A little problem in EL60

2012-07-12 Thread Omar Alvarez
On Saturday 14th I will be on Xcaret park (EL60), there is a possibility that
the security people do not let me in with the Arrow antenna, so I will try with
the telescopic antenna of my FT-60R.
I will check activities and back to EL60 for one or two passes.
I will email  again when I am sure about the day and pass.

Omar

[amsat-bb] WD9EWK @ DM23/DM24, Friday (13 July)

2012-07-12 Thread Patrick STODDARD (WD9EWK/VA7EWK)
Hi!

I plan on making a quick drive west toward the Colorado River and
operate from the DM23/DM24 grid boundary for about 3 hours starting
with an AO-27 pass around 1842 UTC. I only have 3 degrees of elevation
on that pass, but the later pass at 2023 UTC will be better. I also
plan on working one or two FO-29 passes from out there, with the first
FO-29 pass coming around 1900 UTC. I've been out to this spot before,
about a 30-minute drive north of the I-10 freeway and the town of
Quartzsite in very rural La Paz County.

I should have APRS running for this drive. It should be visible at
http://aprs.fi/wd9ewk-9 if there are no problems. There are good
mountaintop digipeaters along the entire drive outside of Phoenix,
so this shouldn't be a problem. I will also post updates to my
Twitter feed @WD9EWK (visible at http://twitter.com/wd9ewk for those
not using Twitter), and - if possible - an additional post to this
list once I am out there.

I will be happy to send QSL cards to those who work WD9EWK at the
grid boundary. There's no need to first send me a card or SASE.
Just e-mail me the QSO details, and - if you're in the log - I will
mail a card. I will also upload QSOs to the Logbook of the World.

73!

[amsat-bb] When JFK Met Telstar

Fifty years ago today, the little Telstar satellite relayed the first TV
transmission
across the Atlantic. It wasn't long before President Kennedy had his
black-and-white

[amsat-bb] updated list of planned passes for DM23/DM24 on 13 July

2012-07-12 Thread Patrick STODDARD (WD9EWK/VA7EWK)
Hi!

Guess I need to slow down a little when plotting passes to work. Here
are the passes I plan to work tomorrow (Friday, 13 July) at the
DM23/DM24 grid boundary in western Arizona:

1811-1828 UTC on FO-29
1845-1849 UTC on AO-27
1955-2015 UTC on FO-29
2023-2030 UTC on AO-27
2141-2157 UTC on FO-29
2204-2211 UTC on AO-27

The first of the AO-27 passes listed above will only have 2 degrees
of maximum elevation around 1846-1848 UTC. The repeater is scheduled
to switch on at 1842 UTC, so I will not hear the first few minutes
of the 7-minute repeater time.

Since the afternoon temperature should approach 110F/43C out there, I
expect to be "commuting" between the grid boundary and Quartzsite (about
25 minutes south of the boundary, along the I-10 freeway) to be able to
stay in my car with its air conditioning. :-)
