[amsat-bb] WINAOS error message

2013-06-18 Thread John Kopala

WINAOS was working earlier on one PC (V. 4.0) but giving an error message on
the other (V. 12.8).

Now I get error messages on both PC's with both versions:

V 4.0 - Listenindex uberschreitet das Maximum (0)
V 12.8 - Listenindex uberschreitet das Maximum (-1)

With these errors, I can no longer print out a list of satellites for a desired
time period.
Any help would be appreciated.

[amsat-bb] Sub orbital launch from Wallops Island Virgina

2013-06-18 Thread John Floyd
A Sub orbital launch from Wallops Island Virgina will carry a payload built by
students from Eastern Shore Community College as a RockSat-c project. I am
posting to this group in hopes that some of you mid-Atlantic hams with high
gain 2 meter antennas and possibly elevation control (depending on where you
are- approx 70 miles elevation at apogee) will give a listen for it. Due to
antenna constraints it will have a very low eirp. It will be transmitting
standard aprs packets on 144.390 Look for kn4ge-12 or kk4pgr -12 as the profile
changes. Launch is scheduled for 5 am EST on June 20th. Keep abreast of any
delays or follow the launch at:

https://www.facebook.com/NASAWFF?fref=ts

Also, you can watch the launch live from Ustream when the time comes.

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nasa-tv-wallops

Any reception reports are invited, even partially decoded packets at
thomas.c.ri...@nasa.gov

Of interest to many hobbyist, it will carry the first Raspberry Pi into space
and also a nooelec SDR dongle that may possibly also be a first.

I apologize in advance for any flooding of aprs that it causes but promise you
it is a very fast flight. The profile change above 15k is intended to minimize
potential for flooding.

Thank You
John KN4GE

[amsat-bb] Satellites Status

2013-06-18 Thread Vincenzo Mone
Hi to the list,
It is about 4 years that i was off the bird due to rifacing roof so i had to
pull down my antennas system.
In this week i have mounted again the antennas system and would like to test
them.
I went on the amsat.org site to see the satellites status and i saw that the
web is changed since my last visit and cannot find the requested page.
Any body can please tell me which are the satellites that still works and
perhaps also the frequencies as i saw that they have been launched mew ones?
Any help will be really appreciated.

[amsat-bb] ISS O/S

2013-06-18 Thread M5AKA
There's been mention on the web about NASA switching to using GNU/Linux on its
part of the ISS.

Will this have any impact on the laptop running the Slow Scan TV and any other
amateur radio software ? I guess it depends on which organization owns the
laptop.

[amsat-bb] Re: psk-1 tnc-nb96 question

2013-06-18 Thread Mike Nettles
Just for anyone else that runs across this equipment. I bought it off ebay for
around $25 a while back.

The TNC-MB96 is a Paccomm Tiny tnc with a built in 9600 baud modem. It can be
used by itself, without the PSK-1 for regular 1200b or 9600 baud packet. There
is a button on the back that changes the firmware from DED Host to the regular
TNC2 type firmware, this one has GPS support..

Yes, I noticed the Paccomm website is offline. Hope they are still in business.

Thanks to those that replied.

  Mike,

They are Paccomm units, right? I've contacted them via telephone a few
times before, and they have always been helpful. It is possible that they
could send you new EPROMs to replace the current one(s), or maybe it's not even
necessary...they will help. I've also sent them a TNC for upgrading/updating
before, and it was worth the reasonable expense of doing so.

Uh-oh---I just tried their website and it's down (suspended). You can still
search and find their phone number I'm sure...hopefully they are still around
and doing business!

From the link you posted looks like I have to use the TNC-MB96 and PSK-1

by itself. I'll look at the jumper settings..ect and see what I can findout.
Sure wish there were some birds up that I could use this with.

Thank you for sending this out Trevor. Below is a copy of what I sent out to

do tend to be well attended.

Below is a decent collection of important links to the documentation of our
project. I've also included a new link to our project being demonstrated
outside. I'll also add onto this email that we were told we had 45 minutes to
present so if you are interested in the projects technical details, please feel
free to email me before or after the meeting with any detailed technical
questions! We could easily fill in more than one meetings worth of time if we
presenting most of the technical details of this project.

AMSAT has sponsored a senior design group at the Rochester Institute of
Technology to design and build an engineering prototype Maximum Power Point
Tracker (MPPT) for use on the Fox-2 spacecraft aimed to launch into Low Earth
Orbit around 2015. A MPPT is used to maximize the power obtained from a solar
panel by forcing the cells to operate at their most efficient voltage
regardless of the voltage required by the payload. One can also think of this
as an impedance match. This optimum voltage changes slightly with variations in
solar irradiance but changes greatly due to variations in solar panel
temperature. The MPPT also utilizes a Texas Instruments MSP430 microcontroller
to communicate telemetry data with the Fox satellite Internal Housekeeping Unit
(IHU) designed by AMSAT for transmission to Earth via ham radio. The senior
design group consisting of Brenton Salmi (KB1LQD), Bryce Salmi (KB1LQC), Ian
MacKenzie (KB3OCF), and Daniel Corriero
successfully implemented an analog MPPT designed for use in orbit over the
five year mission intended for Fox-2 providing the amateur radio community with
a 3U CubeSat carrying amateur radio communications equipment. The 45 minute
presentation will briefly overview the design and function of the MPPT. A
working prototype will also be present at the meeting.

Here's some more information for those interested in learning more details
about our project. There is absolutely no way that we will be able to cover the
project with much detail within 45 minutes, but we'll take what we can get!
(Thanks for the spot!) Our best efforts will be made to keep the presentation
interesting to all in attendance, technical and non-technical alike. Maybe you
could distribute some of the links of interest below as needed, I know the
paragraph above is meant to concisely describe the project. The "detailed
design" section of our EDGE website is where the heavy-hitting technical
documentation is located. Those interested in the gritty details of the project
should check out the documentation. We did our best to absolutely flood AMSAT
with as much information as possible.
