[amsat-bb] Re: Yaesu g 5500 elevation rotator

2013-09-09 Thread Jim Sanford
I had this several years ago. When I got it open, the pot was fine, but
the fine center arm wire had broken due to fatigue. Another bad
mechanical design issue in these otherwise nice rotors.

By all means, get a replacement, but if the pot is good and could be
easily repaired by soldering and reinforcing mechanically the
connection, you can keep the spare for when you really need it.

Good luck!!

The 500 pot on the Yaesu g5500 elevation rotator failed. Does some on the
list have a replacement part number and source preferable a USA source?

2013-09-09 Thread Glenn AA5PK

If all goes as planned, I'll operate portable tomorrow (10 Sept) from DM92 on
the SO-50 pass with my AOS of 1742Z.

Next trip will be to DM90 for those who need that one also.

[amsat-bb] Kenwood TM-V71A or DM-710 for Satellite Work

2013-09-09 Thread Les Rayburn
Continuing on my thread with questions about mobile transceivers for use
with FM satellites, I should have looked no further than my own shack. I
have a Kenwood TM-V71 that is full duplex that I'm currently not using.
Does anyone on the lists have any experience with this transceiver for
satellite operation?

I'm particularly interested in hearing how sensitive the receiver was
with the satellites, or experiences using it for mobile satellite
operation. The D710 with APRS functionality is an identical radio in
terms of the RF hardware, so experiences with that radio would also be
welcome.

I'll be a passenger in my upcoming trip so no worries about my trying to
operate a full-duplex radio while driving. (Ha, Ha)
