2013-09-12 Thread William Leijenaar
Hi AMSATs,

Commercial satellites were very expensive... but we hams find a way to get our
own satellite, for much cheaper price.
Launches are very expensive now... but maybe there is a way we can do it
cheaper ourselves (or with help from rocketeers) ?

(Ofcourse not aiming for AO40 size... maybe starting with pico-sat first.. and
use rocket body as antenna to save on that...).

Just some idea

[amsat-bb] Re: Quite a ride for the little fellow

2013-09-12 Thread Bob- W7LRD
There should be be thorough investigation of this most likely catastrophic (to
the frog) incident. The "Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Frogs" (SPCF)
is demanding NASA and the federal government form an investigative committee to
study this issue and make sure this never happens again. The SPCF has been
instrumental already in banning frog legs (yummy) from many restaurants and
food outlets. Already many politicians of the liberal persuasion are on board
with this concept. There has been a 2 million dollar study proposed to ensure
the protection of the local frog population. Electronic sensors that can detect
the presence of a frog will immediately and automatically shut down the launch
sequence have been proposed. Then a select group of SPCF personnel can scour
the area for the offending amphibians. As a direct result of this incident the
RHPS, (The Rabbit Hearing Protection Society) wants an investigation to see
what happens to the local rabbit population as a res!
ult of rocket noise. The government has allotted a half million dollar study
for this problem. Again the same politicians are looking into this. We must
protect the most helpless among us if we want to conquer space.

[amsat-bb] Re: IARU coordinated frequencies for LitSat-1

2013-09-12 Thread M5AKA
Given there is only 200 kHz of spectrum available for satellites in the 144 MHz
band it is unrealistic to think that each satellite can have their own
exclusive frequency, sharing is necessary.

If you look at the launches planned for the end of the year you will see many
other satellites with downlinks on 2m, there are 3 other satellites with linear
transponder downlinks in 145 MHz planned for launch this year plus a number of
others with beacon downlinks. Frequency sharing is a fact of life.

BTW there was a move in IARU Region 1 to get another 30 kHz of 144 MHz spectrum
assigned to the satellite service. Has anyone in Regions 2 and 3 tried to get
additional spectrum ? With the increasing number of satellites we need it.

Jeff,

There is actually very little problem, and even an opportunity, in the
frequencies.

FO-29 has a high inclination, while anything deployed from the ISS will be
approximately 51 degrees.
The overlap of the orbits will be few and short, and may give some interesting
double hop
opportunities.

SO-50 is a bit more problematic.  It has a similar inclination to the ISS, and
anything deployed from
it.  I didn't have time to do a careful calculation, but most of the time their
footprints/mutual
visibility will not overlap, except for an occasional period of 3-5 orbits.

Finally, anything deployed from the ISS will have a short lifetime, depending
greatly on the altitude
of the ISS when it is launched.

You can play with a good tracking program such as SatPC32 in multitrack mode to
get an idea of how the
orbits fit together.

Did anyone else notice that the transponder downlink frequency is exactly on
the center frequency of
FO-29's uplink or that the Packet downlink was on the SO-50 uplink (without the
67Hz tone)??

Seems like this wasn't very well 'coordin ated'. I hope those freq's were
misprints.
