[amsat-bb] VY1RM is QRV Satellite from Whitehorse, YT CP20
Hello All, After many months of station design, assembly and testing, Ron VY1RM in Whitehorse, YT Canada CP20, is now QRV satellite. Ron, having been active on satellite many years ago, was already equipped with the necessary antennas and radios, but had required a rotor upgrade to get his antennas pointing automatically. This past summer, he and a team of local hams reinstalled his antennas on a G-5500 rotor at his QTH. He is now running SatPC32 to control both the rotor (with LVBTracker) and his radios. Ron's accomplishment puts a permanent satellite station in the Yukon Territory (likely the only one.) Please be listening for Ron VY1RM on both FM and linear birds in the weeks to come; give him a call if you happen to hear his callsign and welcome him back to satellite! In addition to the fact that Ron will put the rare CP20 grid within reach, the Yukon territory is also a valid entity for those who are working on the AMSAT sexagesimal or century awards. And for those up for a real challenge--the CANADAward is available from the RAC for those who complete a 2-way QSO with each of Canada's 13 provinces/territories via satellite. FYI All, I will be active from EN63 on AO-27 today 7/17 @ 19:33z, and will also attempt to be on via AO-51 @ 21:07z as well. I will certainly try another day if I don't work those today who have already contacted me directly about needing to confirm this grid. If you need a QSL for our contact while I'm /P, please email me and I'll send one out--there is no need to QSL or send SASE for these contacts. 73, Doug KD8CAO On Fri, Jul 15, 2011 at 8:00 AM, Doug Papay doug.pa...@gmail.com wrote: All, During the coming week (July 16th - 23rd) I will be available to operate from EN63 via FM satellite for those who still need to confirm this grid. [amsat-bb] Tip: Inexpensive Digital Voice Recorder
All, For those of you who have not already invested in a digital voice recorder for recording your hand-held satellite ops (highly recommended), I ran across the Sanyo Digital Voice Recorder - ICR-FP600D at eCost for only $12.99 + SH (refurb). See URL: http://www.ecost.com/Detail.aspx?edp=58169925navid=155441519 Note: I do not own this model, so I cannot comment on it's quality or features, but for this price it appears to be a pretty good deal. The only downside might be that this model does not have USB connectivity, rather audio is stored on an SD card (1GB SD card is included according to the description, but some other places selling this model have reported that this model doesn't come with the SD card...), which can be removed and inserted into a PC SD card reader for transferring the files to your computer. For those that are interested, you can find the user manual at URL: http://www.sanyo.de/produkte_daten/Dictation/manual/SANYO_SANYO_ICR-FP600D_ICR-FD700D_Manual_E_2_E.pdf 73, Doug KD8CAO ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] EN63 by Sked this Week
All, I am in EN63, west Michigan, this week (thru Saturday July 31st AM) on vacation have the satellite gear w/me--this being said, I'm not planning to be active unless I have specific interest from those who need this grid. (Otherwise, I might be heard active from time to time via the remote @ my home QTH in EN62.) Pse email me if you want to arrange a sked via FM sat. We are on Lake Michigan and have an excellent view to the west which provides a good opportunity for me to work low angle passes for those in the western USA that might not yet have EN63 confirmed. 73, Doug KD8CAO Sent from my iPhone ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Michigan's Upper Peninsula Grid Activation EN65, EN66, and EN76 July 3-5, 2010
All, I will be active via FM satellite (AO-51, SO-50, AO-27 and SO-67) from the uncommon grid squares EN65, EN66, and EN76 in Michigan's Upper Peninsula during the Independence Day holiday weekend (Saturday, July 3rd PM - Monday, July 5th AM). EN76 is my primary destination with side trips for operations from EN65 and EN66. Look for me on from EN76 on Saturday afternoon Sunday and Monday mornings. I expect to operate from EN65 and EN66 during the afternoon/evening passes on Saturday and Sunday respectively coinciding with the location of the local fireworks displays. I will attempt to work as many passes as possible, family commitments prevailing. Operating conditions at my EN76 destination are unknown; satellite imagery shows heavy tree cover as is typical of most of northern Michigan, but since we will be located across the road from a lake, I should have good visibility to the south from the shore and/or dock. I expect to operate from the Lake Michigan and Lake Superior shorelines while in EN65 and EN66 respectively. My station consists of a Kenwood TH-D7A and Arrow antenna. If you are looking for EN74 or EN75, it is possible that I could operate from either these grids on the journey north (Saturday AM) or on the return trip (Monday AM/PM). Drop me an email with your request and I'll try to accommodate. As always, I will sign KD8CAO/P to indicate that I am portable and not @ my home QTH. For all contacts, no QSL or SASE is required, just send me an email request and I will send you a QSL card. 73, Doug KD8CAO ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Michigan Grid Activation; EN74
All, I will be active this Thursday-Saturday from the northern lower peninsula of Michigan--primarily grid square EN74. Despite the fact that Traverse City is located within EN74, this is a rarely activated grid on satellite. I plan to operate as many passes as my schedule time permits to give the opportunity for those who don't have this grid to put it in their logbook. Since I will only have the capability to operate FM voice satellite, my operations will be limited to AO-27 and SO-50, as AO-51 is in mode V/S until Sunday evening HO-68 is not scheduled for FM operation this weekend. My tentative schedule is as follows: Thursday 22-Apr-2010 AO-27 18:48z - 19:03z (from wherever I am at the time, most likely EN63; possibly EN64) Friday 23-Apr-2010 SO-50 04:04z - 04:18z (upon request) SO-50 12:35z - 12:48z AO-27 18:21z - 18:34z* AO-27 20:00z - 20:13z* Saturday 24-Apr-2010 SO-50 04:34z - 04:47z (upon request) SO-50 11:24z - 11:37z AO-27 17:53z - 18:05z* AO-27 19:31z - 19:45z (maybe; EN63) *If there is significant interest, I will consider activating EN64 on Friday and/or Saturday afternoon. Send me an email off-list if you need EN64, if I have significant interest I will make an effort to activate this grid as well during my trip. I will QSL upon request, just send me an email and I will send you a card. No SASE needed, but always appreciated. 73, Doug KD8CAO ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Graphical display of states worked or something
Mike, Check out GcmWin (Great Circle Maps) from Roger, SM3GSJ at URL http://www.qsl.net/sm3gsj/index.htm. This is not exactly what you are looking for, but it does a good job of plotting your grid squares on a map. It can plot from two different grid square lists as well, so you can highlight confirmed vs. worked grids, for example, in different colors or shades. It does have the capability of adding boundaries--so state outlines could be added, but so far no support for shading in the boundaries as far as I know. Doug KD8CAO -- Message: 11 Date: Thu, 21 Jan 2010 09:44:52 -0500 From: Michael Wolthuis wolth...@msu.edu Subject: [amsat-bb] Graphical display of states worked or something similar? To: amsat-bb@amsat.org Message-ID: c77dd294.11803%wolth...@msu.educ77dd294.11803%25wolth...@msu.edu Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Been having lots of fun with new rooftop sat antennas. What I would like to do is attempt to work all states via AO-51, but I am struggling with a good layout to keep myself motivated. Does anyone know of a logging program I could display on a flat screen specific to sats? Here is my thought: A google maps overlay that has states and gridsquares on it (does this exist today as overlays for Google Earth maybe?) Then Iog my sat contacts on AO-51 into a logging program (LOTW or something else). Then it gives me an output overlay for Google so I can see all states and gridsquares worked. It would be great if it could color in the states I have worked and/or the grids I have worked on zoomin. Well, I know it is a lot to ask and maybe it has to be designed, but it certainly sounded interesting to me. It would really be nice when scouts or family come over to show them the states I have worked on AO-51 and/or others in a visual display. Thanks for any ideas or any pointers into anything close or at least a good sat logging program that maybe I can export a file to utilize in Google Earth to make a KMZ out of or something.
