[amsat-bb] October Symposium Travel
Greetings All! This message is for those of you who plan to fly into (and out of) the Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport for the upcoming AMSAT Symposium and Annual Meeting on October 10-12, 2014. I've just learned that Southwest Airlines is now having a 72 hour seat sale (good until this Thursday) from selected airports in the USA into and out of BWI. That airport is very close to the October Symposium venue. The must fly by travel period goes through February, 2015 and some of the seats are going for as little as $49 one way. Our Symposium host, Frank Bauer KA3HDO, also indicates that tentative plans are now in the works for some kind of a tour on the Monday following the Symposium. So, depending on your availability and interest, you may want to book your flights to and from BWI accordingly. 73, Keith KB1SF / VA3KSF Treasurer, AMSAT-NA ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] San Jose Symposium
Greetings All! For those of you who are seriously thinking about attending the AMSAT Symposium in San Jose this year and also need to book flight reservations, I suggest you do so quickly. It seems air fares for early November are creeping ever upward, with a subsequent diminishing availability of good departure and arrival times into and out of San Jose. Between the time I first looked at a round trip fare from Detroit to San Jose, the fare had climbed nearly $100 and my preferred flight times were already sold out. If you have already decided to attend, I suggest you book your tickets NOW (while you still can get your choice of flights) and without also paying a last minute premium. 73, Keith Baker KB1SF / VA3KSF ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Italian Repeaters on IARU Satellite Freqs
Greetings All. By way of a heads up:, I'm not sure we (AMSAT-NA) can do anyting about this. However, our friends in Europe might bring up the issue in discussion. http://forums.qrz.com/showthread.php?t=279925 As time goes on, my hunch is that this problem is only going to get worse. 73, Keith KB1SF ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] New ICOM Satellaite Radio?
Greetings All! Some of you may have already seen or heard about it, but it appears ICOM recently displayed a new HF/VHF/UHF satellite-capable radio at the Tokyo Ham Fair. Called the IC-9100, it sports a satellite button (just to the upper right of the screen) so apparently it IS designed to work the birds. No word yet on when (if ever) it will be sold in the USAor the price. Photos are at: http://www.ab4oj.com/icom/ic9100/main.html 73, Keith KB1SF / VA3KSF ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org.
