I have listened for this bird several times using the published frequencies and
as yet haven't heard anything form it???

[amsat-bb] auto trackers for sale

2014-03-22 Thread Perry Yantis

I have and no longer use these auto tracking devices.

Unitrac 2000 set up for a parallel port and a TS 2000.

Endevour Auto tracker this will control the antennas but the tuning chip is not
there (I think you can still get one?).

$75 each and I will pay shipping.

These items have not been used for 4-5 years, but they should still work OK.

[amsat-bb] Success AO73

2013-11-26 Thread Perry Yantis

After not being able to get into AO73 last night I today reloaded my keps.

I noticed that AO73 had a newer element set then I had before.

As a result tonight I did get into AO73 and worked KC9ELU and K8YSE.

I did have to retune my transmit every time I started talking.

This is something I usually don't have to do on other satellites.

So hopefully as the keps improve, so will the accuracy of the tracking programs.

Only time will tell.

I was impressed with the strong signals considering it was in the low power
mode.

[amsat-bb] Funcube

2013-11-24 Thread Perry Yantis
I listened for the Funcube pass orbit 57 at 1020 pm Sunday night that was an
overhead pass for me.

I heard many people using it with strong signals.

But for some reason I could not hear my return signal.

I kept trying and finally did hear myself, but very weak and discovered it was
near the end of the pass already.

Don't know what is wrong, never ran into this problem before.

Anybody got some suggestions

[amsat-bb] Keps Question

The bare 2 line keps do not have the header at the top which the Unitrac

With the bare elements only (no headers description) Unitrac would import the

I then called cq several times with good signal returns, but no one

[amsat-bb] xw 1 satellite

2009-12-19 Thread Perry Yantis

Just worked the new xw-1 satellite.

It is nice to have a new ssb/cw satellite and it sounded great on the
past a short time ago.

Then that was followed by a VO-52 pass that was even louder (of course
it is higher).

I hope this new bird stays in the ssb/cw transponder mode most of the
time.

Great satellite times ahead.

This gives me more of a chance to reach 6,000 qso's by satellite
(still need 38)

[amsat-bb] Icom 910H vs Kenwood TS2000

2009-11-30 Thread Perry Yantis

I am always amazed when I hear someone say the TS 2000 does not have a
good receiver, mine is great!!!

The TS 2000x I have hears all satellites very well.

Remember there is an internal preamp on the TS2000.

On hf it just seems to amplify the noise level so I leave it off.

But I leave it turned on all the time on vhf, uhf and it automatically
comes on when you turn on 1.2.

The last time I used an external preamp was on the KLM Echo 2 back in
the 70's.

Since then I have used a Kenwood TS700, TS790, and now the TS2000x.

The TS2000x receives (with the internal preamp on for vhf, uhf) about
the same as my old TS790 did (it did not have an internal preamp).

With M2 antennas, computer tracking and tuning, low loss cable, and
cable lengths between 50-70 ft I have never had a problem receiving
any amateur radio sats.

[amsat-bb] SO-67 28Nov2009 1340-1345z

2009-11-28 Thread Perry Yantis

Why does all think that SO67 is suppose to be on this weekend?

The email you read said it "was a suggested schedule"

The SO67 web page has not updated the satellites schedule since last
weekend.

This suggests to me that SO67 will not be on this weekend.

Also the "not hearing it" reports confirm that.

[amsat-bb] AO-51 V/S mode

2009-08-08 Thread Perry Yantis
I use a Kenwood ts 2000x for for v/s mode but think you can do it on
your Yaesu ft 736 the same way I do here.

I run the SSB 2.4 down converter with 2 meter output down the coax
into the shack.
Then the cable goes into a Hamtronics 2m to 10m downconverter.

Then the now 10m signal goes into the rca jack on the back of the ts
2000 for a receive ONLY antenna or beverage ant.
When this is used transmitting on 2m does not fry the 2.4 down
converter.

Most hf rigs do have this receive only plug on the back.

Try it, works fine for me.

This way was suggested here on the bbs many years ago.

Perry WB8OTH

I would like to try this mode using a K5GNA downconverter. The problem
is I am
using an FT-736R and apparently you can not have Xmit and Rcv on same
band in
satellite mode. I am using SATPC-32 for doppler control. The
downconverter uses
a 2m IF. Anyone else with an FT-736R have this worked out?

Many thanks!!

73,
Al W8KHP

[amsat-bb] TS-2000X performance on 23cm band - ?

2009-04-23 Thread Perry Yantis

I have one of the early ts200x's and I have had no problems on 1.2 ghz.

I mainly us it for the satellites but also use it for the vhf contests
and it has always worked fine.

I have consistantly worked many in Ohio on 1.2 ghz with just a M2 at
about 30 ft.

I have also heard some others outside of Ohio during band openings
(rare but it does happen).;

I don't know where you got this idea that the receive was bad on these
rigs.

The radio does have a built in preamp.

I leave it turned OFF for hf because it makes too much noise.

I leave it ON for vhf, and uhf because it does improve the ssb signals.

On 1.2 the preamp is ALWAYS on.
