[amsat-bb] RIP AO-51

2011-11-29 Thread Reid Crowe
Thank you AO-51 for your service. May your cells one day short so that you
may come back to life. Until then, RIP.

Also, thank you to the AO-51 team for all your extraordinary work from
start to end. AO-51 is the bird that got me into satellites.

Sorry Mika, things have been really hectic for me with moving and school

Again, sorry for the delay.

[amsat-bb] TM-D710 Satellite programming

2010-08-17 Thread Reid Crowe
I am trying to program some satellite frequencies into my TM-D710.
Has anyone had any luck with programming a cross band split into the
memory? I was able to do this with my VX-7R and assumed that all radios
would support this.

If not possible, how do the D710 users in the group operate the birds?

Thanks in advance,

[amsat-bb] Pass prediction algorithm

2010-06-28 Thread Reid Crowe
I'm trying to write my own pass prediction program for tracking FM
satellites. This program will this notify the users of upcoming passes
via APRS messaging. I would like to find an algorithm that will predict
AOS/LOS time and azimuth and the maximum elevation. I'm also hoping
this algorithm will not be too computationally intensive as it may
possibly be used for hundreds of different station locations.

Can anyone help?

[amsat-bb] FQ56pm, Thule Greenland on the air today.

2010-05-24 Thread Reid Crowe
All,

I am planning on leaving Thule Greenland on either Wednesday or Thursday
of this week. I do not know how many more opportunities I will have to
be on the air before I leave Greenland. We are not flying today so I
will try to make the most of my down time and get on the air. I will
try to be on the following passes today from FQ56pm:

AO-51 1131UTC
AO-51 1310UTC
AO-51 1627UTC
HO-68 1835UTC

Thank you to everyone I've worked or who has tried to work me. You guys
have made this trip a lot of fun for me.

[amsat-bb] Using a FT-897 for Linear Transponders

[amsat-bb] GP47 Activation

2010-05-03 Thread Reid Crowe
My operation from Søndre Strøm (aka Sondrestrom, aka Kangerlussuaq)
GP47pa will start sometime around Wednesday, May 5th. I will be
traveling to Søndre Strøm tomorrow and will hopefully not fly the next
day. I plan on being there a little less than two weeks. After that I
will be returning to Thule FQ56.

Be sure to sign up for my email list at
http://groups.google.com/group/ox-thule-2010 if you have not already
done so. I will send out notices from here with planned times of operation.

Also, a big thank you to everyone that I've worked. I'm just as excited
to give out these grids as you are to receive them!

Remember: I will need to have cards printed up when I get home so there
may be some delay in my reply. I will QSL all cards sent with SASE, IRC
or Greenstamp 100% don't worry!

Thanks again everyone! Get the word out to everyone you know and invite
those not on the birds, or in ham radio, into your station to make a few
QSOs and show them how easy it is!

[amsat-bb] OX Dxpedition Update

2010-04-14 Thread Reid Crowe
I just wanted to give everyone an update on an upcoming QTH change.
Although I am scheduled to be in Thule until April 23rd, there is a
chance I could leave as early as April 21st. I will be going to Wallops
Island, VA to put our radar equipment on a P-3 aircraft and do flight
tests.

I will be returning to Greenland on May 1st (although there is talk that
it will be pushed back to May 4). I will be in Sondrestrom, grid
GP47pa, for two weeks before returning to Thule for two more weeks
around May 18.

Thanks to everyone that has tried to work me. You've made this trip a
lot of fun!

[amsat-bb] FQ56 Operation Announcements

2010-03-10 Thread Reid Crowe
I just want to let everyone that is following my planned operation to
FQ56, Thule Greenland, that I've created a Google group to send out
announcements. Since I will not have a set operating schedule while I'm
up there, I will send out an email right before I go on the with my
operation plans for that time period. I think this is a better option
than just telling people to watch the DX cluster.

[amsat-bb] FQ56 Activation - Thule Greenland in April and DM04 Activation this week

2010-03-01 Thread Reid Crowe
Everyone, thank you for your help on my HT transporting question I
posted earlier! I think I have found a method to get my equipment to
where I'm going. I'll try to get on the air Wed and Thursday nights
from DM04 (I know not the rarest). I'll possibly be on during college
satellite night as K0KU/6 if work permits.

I will be getting my equipment shipped to FQ56 in late March. Where I
hope to be on the air for a month starting March 23rd. I will try to
use satellites that uplink on VHF, as UHF would interfere with the BMEWS
on base. If BMEWS interferes with UHF downlink, I'll also be out of
commission on the birds.

My schedule will be as work/passes/weather permits. As of right now,
I'll only be operating the FM satellites due to equipment limitations.
If I can figure out a way to work the SSB/CW birds, I'll be on those as
well. The satellite with the best coverage of Thule and the US would be
HO-68 assuming it is in FM mode.

I will also be working some HF in between passes. So look for OX3RC on
the birds and HF starting March 23. I cannot give a specific time of
operation because my primary mission is work, and my work schedule is
dependent on weather.
