[amsat-bb] Re: Semi-remoting the controller for a Yaesu G5400

2009-08-21 Thread bpn518

Hi Lowell,

I think you need only 3 wires for one rotor, and 2 wires for the other (because
you'd use the common hot from the first rotor). However, you wouldn't know
meter reading for end of travel of the motor, and could damage the rotor.

If you are using the remote tracker interface (such as LVB that has front panel
control as well as PC control), you could maybe run long cable from the tracker
interface (in your shack) to the controller (in your garage), and you would
have both control and digital readout of the position, and the LVB would know
end of travel of each motor.

Other ideas?

[amsat-bb] Re: Difference between Yaesu G5400, G5600 and G5500

2009-08-21 Thread bpn518

Jan,

Yes, add the C in the 5600 controller, and your old motors will work.

I did that with mine, and I now also use the LVB tracker.

[amsat-bb] Yaesu LVB Nova issues - Help

2009-07-02 Thread bpn518

Thanks for those answering my questions on my odd 5400 motors 5600B control box
situation.
Now I have it working with LVB Tracker and Nova.
But the motors stop tracking after a few minutes.
First it seems to track fine, with motors turning as Nova instructs.
But after a few minutes of activating and turning motors here and there, the
motors don't seem to respond to the Nova software to move any more.
I have to shut down Nova (getting a cannot write to file error), reboot the
computer (otherwise when I go to Nova I get an error msg that the device is
already connected? (but no response)), and restart Nova.? Then the motors will
seem to track as Nova directs, but only for a few minutes and then motors stop
working again.? I cannot tell if it is a computer problem (IBM T41 laptop, Win
XP), or LVB (just got), or what?
Any clues??
Thanks for the space.

[amsat-bb] Kenpro-Yaesu 5400 5600B question

2009-07-01 Thread bpn518
Good day sat-guys:
I have an old Kenpro G5400 without computer interface and a newer Yaesu G5600B
control box.
What are the differences in the motors between these 2 series other than the
limit switches?
In case of the control boxes, I see the G5400 has starter motor caps, but the
G5600B control box doesn't.
The old motors didn't work with the 5600B box until I added a starter cap to
both the AZ and EL motor lines.
I am planning to use the 5600B box with LVB tracker- any other issues?
What do I need to do to use my old motors with the G5600B? Or, anyone have 5500
motors that they wish to sell?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bennett ko2ok
