2011-04-14 Thread Greg D.

Congrats, Steve! It's a feeling you will never forget. (Mine was 18 years ago
- RS-10 - and I can still remember like it was yesterday.)

I am so excited right now that I can barely type because I'm dancing a jig.

AO-51 was working fine for the 2158Z, 4-13-2011 pass over my QTH (EM95md)
 during
which I made my FIRST successful satellite QSO ever with K8YSE. Thank You
 K8YSE!!

My apologies to K8YSE for getting a bit tongue-tied but I was so excited to
 hear
him repeat my call sign back and ask for the QSL that I about swallowed the
 microphone :-)
What makes it even better was the fact that I make it a point of recording
 the
passes so I have an audio recording of my first AO-51 QSO.

A big thanks to K6LCS (Clint) and his web
site http://web.me.com/clintbradford/k6lcs/Home.html for all the tips and
inspiration to give satellites a try.

2011-04-14 Thread John Floyd
John K8YSE was my first satellite contact also and I am betting for many
others. At the time I wasn't aware of the site with the recordings. It was an
early morning pass and by the time I went to work and checked email he had
looked up my address and sent me a link to the recording. Way beyond the call
of duty. Maybe there should be an award for delivering the most first
contacts WAV or WASC? have fun deciding what the acronyms mean and congrats
on your first contact,

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately, there is no known cure for the bug that just bit you. You
will have to put up with the side effects for the rest of your life. ;-)

Congrats!

[amsat-bb] Re: AO-51 is Working Fine - My First Satellite QSO Ever!

2011-04-14 Thread Bob- W7LRD

There is something very intrinsically  powerfull about this process/event.  I
hear it time and time again.  For me it was RS12.  Why does hearing your
call/name or your own voice come back from a little box several hundred high,
traveling at about 17,000 miles per hour have such a moving impact in our minds
and lives?   As I mentioned in a earlier post, the novelty never really gets
old.  I just recently got my mobile rig up and running and it was RS12 all
over again!  I accept the fact we or most of us are part of a unique group of
individuals that derive profound pleasure in this activity.  I have tried to
explain this to normal people and they just look at me funny.  At times I
center my day around a computer print out.  My xyl has jokingly said ,you need
a intervention.  There is no doubt in my mind this post will strike a nerve to
many readers.

see you on the birds

Steve,

People like you are the reason that Drew KO4MA and I dropped what we were
doing/ran home from work early today to turn AO-51 back on.

Happy to hear about your first QSO! Congrats.

Hope to catch you in the log.
