[amsat-bb] Re: USB to Serial Converters
The issue is not the USB to serial converter, the radio, or the brand of the converter. The real issue is the software driver support for the operating system being used. 73 de W4AS On May 5, 2010, at 4:09 AM, Frank Woolfe wrote: > Is anyone using a USB to Serial converter successfully to control a FT847?? ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. I used USB to Serial converters on a XP laptop successfully. But the XP laptop died and I now have Windows 7 64-bit. I have had no luck with USB to serial on this one. See the multitude of my posts to this list. Larry W7IN ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? Frank, I am using the USB to Serial cable/software from Gigaware I got at Radio Shack for my FT-847 and works fine with my old Dell XP Laptop for running SatPC32. No problems here (knock on wood) with an eBay cheapie (just $2 shipped) and a Dell Optiplex running Windows XP. 73, Bill NZ5N ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. Yes. I'm using an 8 port Edgeport device with my 847. I use three of these in my shack two 8 port, and one 4 port. All work flawlessly. You can find them on Ebay, see item 320523234316 . I paid $25 to $40. 73 Jeff kb2m -Original Message- From: amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org [mailto:amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org] On Behalf Of Frank Woolfe Sent: Wednesday, May 05, 2010 4:10 AM To: amsat-bb@amsat.org Subject: [amsat-bb] USB to Serial Converters Is anyone using a USB to Serial converter successfully to control a FT847?? Yes. I'm using a Keyspan USA-19W with a MacBook Pro, and running OS X. Works great, never a glitch. Sorry, that's probably not what you wanted to hear if you're stuck with Windoze 100% of the time, but I do occasionally cross over to the dark side when I want to run HRD. I also have a copy of Win XP on my Mac for those crazy moments. ;-) 73, Dave - K7DAA On May 5, 2010, at 1:09 AM, Frank Woolfe wrote: > > > > > Is anyone using a USB to Serial converter successfully to control a > FT847?? > > > > Frank VK5KV.. > > ___ > Sent via amsat...@amsat.org.
