Re: [analog-help] Logformat for BPFTP
There is an altogether different log which logs date, time, upload/download, filename and bytes transferred. The only other piece of information I need is the user's IP address. Can information be pulled from more than one log and combined in one report? Re: [analog-help] Logformat for BPFTP
As for simplifying the log, there are advanced log options but they are preconfigured and not much use in paring down the information. Re: [analog-help] Logformat for BPFTP
I apologize. I am new at this. That was not a very good example of the log file. I just copied and pasted the first 20 lines or so. I am interested in date, time, user ip address, file uploaded/downloaded, and transfer size. Here, I think is a better example of the log file. Thanks again for your help. Re: [analog-help] Logformat for BPFTP
This logfile produces a lot more information than you need for reporting (and probably more information than you need to keep in general). Does that server offer a Transfer Log option that just logs uploads and downloads? Otherwise, you will need to find the GET, PUT, GETS and PUTS lines and build a log format from those. Even then, those commands probably won't have the full path information. In that case the only option is to build a pre-processor so that you can format these into more simplified logs. See http://analog.cx/docs/logfmt.html for some samples of what you might want a log file to look like. -- Jeremy Wadsack Wadsack-Allen Digital Group Gil ([EMAIL PROTECTED]; Wednesday, March 19, 2003 12:12 PM): > Here are a few lines from the logfile. > Thanks for responding so quickly. > -- Session created on 2/14/2003 11:59:22 PM on port 9795 -- > 2/14/2003 11:59:26 PM - FTP Server On-line : IP(s) 192.168.1.200, on port > 9795 > -- Session created on 2/15/2003 12:00:49 AM on port 9795 -- > 2/15/2003 12:00:54 AM - FTP Server On-line : IP(s) 192.168.1.200, on port > 9795 > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:37 AM - (not logged in) (218.161.0.222) > connected > to ip : 192.168.1.200 > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:37 AM - (not logged in) (218.161.0.222) > sending > welcome message. > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:37 AM - (not logged in) (218.161.0.222) > 220 Gil > and Yu-jins' FTP Server > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:39 AM - (not logged in) (218.161.0.222) > USER BoA > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:39 AM - (not logged in) (218.161.0.222) > 331 > Password required for BoA. > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:41 AM - (not logged in) (218.161.0.222) > PASS > > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:41 AM - Boa (218.161.0.222) > logged in. > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:41 AM - Boa (218.161.0.222) > 230 User Boa logged > in. > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:42 AM - Boa (218.161.0.222) > CWD /video > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:42 AM - Boa (218.161.0.222) > asked to change > directory : 'C:\Boa\ -> C:\Boa\video\' --> Access allowed. > (01) 2/15/2003 12:17:42 AM - Boa (218.161.0.222) > 250 CWD command > successful. Oh, right. http://gzip.org/ That's the "obvious" location that I often forget. -- Jeremy Wadsack Wadsack-Allen Digital Group + | TO UNSUBSCRIBE from this list: |http://lists.isite.net/listgate/analog-help/unsubscribe.html | | Digest version: http://lists.isite.net/listgate/analog-help-digest/ | Usenet version: news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.web.analog.general | List archives: http://www.analog.cx/docs/mailing.html#listarchives +
Re: [analog-help] Compressing multiple log files with gzip
> Can someone suggest a utility that can easily compress one or > multiple log files individually in gzip with a single command? I think there's not much use in keeping separate logfiles per day. So instead, cat * | gzip > allmylogs.gz or something like that. Assuming that you started with a load of text-format logfiles, then this command would concatenate them together into a single large text-format logfile, and then gzip it. Actually, I'm not very good at unix-style command-lines, so I do it one by one. On Windows, to concatenate them from the command line, you can do copy jan1.log + jan2.log + jan3.log + jan4.log alljan.log gzip allgan.log But that's kind of tedious. So I use "unix command line utilities for win32" (search for it on google) so I can use cat instead of copy. -- Lucian + | TO UNSUBSCRIBE from this list: |http://lists.isite.net/listgate/analog-help/unsubscribe.html | | Digest version: http://lists.isite.net/listgate/analog-help-digest/ | Usenet version: news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.web.analog.general | List archives: http://www.analog.cx/docs/mailing.html#listarchives +

On win2000 and NT here, gzip *.* will compress as many files as there are in the directory. I forgot where I got the windows gzip binary (version 1.2.4) from, but it was somewhere obvious... The only problem I found was that occasionally it wouldn't unzip them again correctly, giving output errors when reading the compressed logs back into analog. So now I run analog on a separate linux box. Noel The views and opinions expressed herein are those of the author and not of Cattles plc or any of its subsidiaries.
