Re: [analog-help] Logformat for BPFTP

2003-03-19 Thread analog-help
There is an altogether different log which logs date, time, upload/download,
filename and bytes transferred.

The only other piece of information I need is the user's IP address.

Can information be pulled from more than one log and combined in one report?

As for simplifying the log, there are advanced log options but they are
preconfigured and not much use in paring down the information.

2003-03-19 Thread analog-help
I apologize. I am new at this. That was not a very good example of the log
file. I just copied and pasted the first 20 lines or so.

I am interested in date, time, user ip address, file uploaded/downloaded,
and transfer size.

Here, I think is a better example of the log file.

Thanks again for your help.

What sort of a report would you like to see for the 20 or so lines
you've posted?

For example, none of these log entries refer to any file transfers - do
you actually care about reporting on any of this extraneous information,
or do you only care about file transfers?

Re: [analog-help] Logformat for BPFTP

2003-03-19 Thread analog-help

This logfile produces a lot more information than you need for
reporting (and probably more information than you need to keep in
general). Does that server offer a Transfer Log option that just logs
uploads and downloads?

Otherwise, you will need to find the GET, PUT, GETS and PUTS lines and
build a log format from those. Even then, those commands probably
won't have the full path information. In that case the only option is
to build a pre-processor so that you can format these into more
simplified logs.

See http://analog.cx/docs/logfmt.html for some samples of what you
might want a log file to look like.

If you can post four or five lines from the logfile here we can try to
come up with one for you.

No, it doesn't include the filename at the end.

Analog doesn't do this normally, but you might be able to fool it into
doing this with Aliases. Try something like this (each command should
be on one line):

  FILEALIAS http://www.domain.com/cat.php/*
  http://www.domain.com/cat.php?$1

  REQALIAS http://www.domain.com/cat.php?*
  http://www.domain.com/cat.php/$1

  REQALIAS http://www.domain.com/cat.php
  http://www.domain.com/cat.php/

Oh, right. http://gzip.org/ That's the "obvious" location that I often
forget.

I think there's not much use in keeping separate logfiles per day. So
instead,

cat * | gzip > allmylogs.gz

or something like that. Assuming that you started with a load of text-format
logfiles, then this command would concatenate them together into a single
large text-format logfile, and then gzip it. Actually, I'm not very good at
unix-style command-lines, so I do it one by one.

On Windows, to concatenate them from the command line, you can do

copy jan1.log + jan2.log + jan3.log + jan4.log alljan.log
gzip allgan.log

But that's kind of tedious. So I use "unix command line utilities for win32"
(search for it on google) so I can use cat instead of copy.

I read this a different way - "can gzip compress multiple files in one go
?".

On win2000 and NT here, gzip *.* will compress as many files as there are in
the directory. I forgot where I got the windows gzip binary (version 1.2.4)
from, but it was somewhere obvious...

The only problem I found was that occasionally it wouldn't unzip them again
correctly, giving output errors when reading the compressed logs back into
analog. So now I run analog on a separate linux box.

[analog-help] Can I indent similar links in the referer report?

2003-03-19 Thread analog-help
Hi, in my referrer report I get links with arguments indented under the main
link like ...

445: http://www.google.com/search
  11: http://www.google.com/search?q=term1
  10: http://www.google.com/search?q=term2
  09: http://www.google.com/search?q=term3

How can I get the following links to output in the same indented manner?

445: http://www.domain.com/cat.php/
  11: http://www.domain.com/cat.php/Category1
  10: http://www.domain.com/cat.php/Category2
  09: http://www.domain.com/cat.php/Category3

Thanks!
