[android-developers] Re: How to use offline Google Map in my MapView?

2016-03-20 Thread gjs
Hi,

Yes OSM maps can be slow (to download) according to where you source them
from, however once OSM map tiles are downloaded and cached locally they do
work ok / reasonably fast within Android Google Maps (views).

[android-developers] Re: New project with online database

2016-03-20 Thread Subodh Nijsure
I would certainly look at Retrofit2 library for doing any kind of http
transaction ( http://square.github.io/retrofit/ ). You can find simple
example using this library at https://github.com/snijsure/tinyurl

For general callback stuff you should also make yourself familiar with
RxAndroid ( https://github.com/ReactiveX/RxAndroid ) but it might be bit
tough get your arms around it. Again you can find simple example of using
RxAndroid to handle callback at https://github.com/snijsure/TwitterSample

Hope this helps.

Re: [android-developers] Question regarding "massive" application downloads

2016-03-20 Thread Nalin Savara
Alan...
Just give your people a signed apk to install from a local server.

Don't worry too much... even if not installed from Google play it can use
and access google services and as long as binary and sign is same as once
uploaded to Google play... it works okay and you will even get an option to
upgrade when you put a new version.

Alternatively you can have some license check and force user to re download
from Google play once google play is accessible or better still make people
in cave get a version one version behind google play version but same apk
as was earlier put on Google play -- then google will give them option to
upgrade apk from Google play... and so you will see download count
increase. ..

Hope that helps

Nalin

[android-developers] Re: Question regarding "massive" application downloads

2016-03-20 Thread Alain Bonnefoy
Hi,

I don't talk about any issue in fact.

I just say that if a group of peoples come in a site of interest and want
all download the application, install it and then download the content
throught the application, we will face a problem of bandwidth which cause a
long time to wait that all downloads are finished.
So yes, peoples can already have the application installed, best case, or
cannot.

So that's not an issue, just a normal behavior when lot of peoples want to
download MB from a same link.

So, my question was to ask if anyone knows a solution for that.

And maybe I found a solution here
,
maybe with the possibility to also cache the application, but I'm still
wait for this confirmation.

[android-developers] Google developer training - using string resources?

2016-03-20 Thread Haim Litvak
Hey,

In the guide below, I see that string resources are being used as keys for
getting and setting shared preferences:
http://developer.android.com/training/basics/data-storage/shared-preferences.html

However, since the keys are not going to be presented in any way to the UI,
and I wouldn't want them to change if the user changed the locale, I see no
reason to store them as string resources. I think that using constant class
is a better solution in this case.
This stackoverflow thread reinforces my position:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25428064/where-to-store-string-valuesin-strings-xml-or-in-constants-class

Do you have any reason why I would want the shared preferences key to be a
resource string?

Thank you,
Haim Litvak.

[android-developers] save parts of streaming vides

2016-03-20 Thread Dmitry Medvedev
Hello,
I want to create an app which record video from camera, and while video
recording save pieces of this streaming - length is 30 second. And when
recording will stop I will have a lot of video files - each duration 30
seconds.
Is it possible to do in Android?
If yes - what libraries or methods use for this task? Thank you

[android-developers] Re: How to use offline Google Map in my MapView?

2016-03-20 Thread Alain Bonnefoy
Gary,

I already use OSM, with MapsForge maps for offline usage, but I didn't
understood that was also useable with GoogleMaps.
And OSM maps are much slower than GoogleMaps to be refreshed.
So, I was wondering to keep using OSM or not...

Thanks,

Re: [android-developers] Re: Cant unenroll/uninstall Android N beta

2016-03-20 Thread Jez San
i finally managed to get my Nexus 6P back to Android 6.0. i managed to
activate my Fi account in the end by moving locations. the place where i tried
to activate (many times) must not have had good enough cell coverage on both
Sprint and TMobile (at the same time) to do the activation, but after i moved,
it worked and I’m now live. Customer support thought it was a sim problem and
sent me a 2nd sim but i didn’t need it. the first sim worked fine, after i
moved locations to activate. phew.

When I start running my app with AVD, I use the AVD screen to select apps,
then the available apps are displayed, but not the app I'm running.
Obvious bug - I can't test.
Please help an old disabled programmer, I don't have the 8 hours a day
anymore to take this thing apart and fix it.

Tx,

Hi,

ANR usually means you are doing too much work on a UI thread, long running
tasks should be run on other non UI threads.

[android-developers] Re: How to use offline Google Map in my MapView?

2016-03-20 Thread gjs
Hi,

You can download, cache and use Open Street Map tiles in an Android Map
view when there is no internet coverage, if you search in Stack Overflow
for TileProvider you might find some examples
eg
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14784841/tileprovider-using-local-tiles?rq=1
and
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14253790/android-google-api-v2-enable-disable-tileprovider?rq=1

that will help you with using OSM map tiles.

[android-developers] Re: Question regarding "massive" application downloads

2016-03-20 Thread gjs
Hi,

I did, but still don't get the issue.

Perhaps you mean that the previously installed application would be
required to download additional DATA related to the specific site, when the
persons are located at the site of interest ?

Or otherwise perhaps you could bundle all the site's data within the
application so that the data is also downloaded when the user installs the
app, hence my reference to what is https://play.google.com for ?

There is many other possible solutions, eg cache the data on a server
located at the site & get your app to download the data from the nearby
local server over wifi connection. Or setup Kiosk machines eg Tablets on
site that anybody can access, etc.

Without knowing what your intended content and projected data volumes are
it's a bit hard to know what to advise, could the data be streamed instead
of download ?

I'm still just guessing because as your issue is not clear to me, maybe due
to language translation of your original question...

Regards
