[android-developers] Newbee: Which IDE, language ... to write IMAP client

i want to write an android app which connects to an IMAP server.

I never created an android app, but I am developing since several years. Up 
to now Python, C, JavaScript.

My current road map looks like this:

1. Decide which IDE to use. Up to now I think android studio is the best 
choice. AFAIK this means Java.
I did  some coding with Java more than ten years ago. I did not like it 
much. It would be nice if I could
use a different language. According to wikipedia[1] the java run time 
environment supports languages
like scala or Jython. Can I use Jython to develop android apps?


2. Decide which library to use to connect to an IMAP server. This question 
depends on question1

Can you give me some advice?

[android-developers] Got out of memory while using sprite4droid library

Hello all,

I have developed Android sample game with Srite4droid library from the 
following demo project.

https://github.com/MyAppConverter/Sprite4DroidSimpleGame

Sometime we got out of memory exception and the application closed. 
We have used 
System.gc(),
android:hardwareAccelerated="false" 
android:largeHeap="true" to reduce this exception but still it crashed. 

In the LogCat the error is
ERROR :: Fatal signal 11 (SIGSEGV) at 0x30302e30 (code=1), thread 21951 
(Timer-21) 

Has anyone here encountered this error before? What can I do to solve the 
problem?

[android-developers] Calender reminder URI null on Nexus 5x

One of my application uses "CalendarContract.Reminders.CONTENT_URI" to set 
reminder.

Sample code:

contentResolver.insert(CalendarContract.Reminders.CONTENT_URI,
reminders);


But CalendarContract.Reminders.CONTENT_URI returns null for Nexus 
5x(Android N).
Hence reminder does not get set.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

This place is a mess anyway.  Like Trevor said Google+ developer groups 
didn't work out.  They became social networking brag stations.  An actual 
forum BBS would be better but perhaps Google doesn't have any such company 
written software and they tend to suffer from the NIH syndrome.  With a 
forum you could have sections for beginners, a section for each area of 
interest and yes a jobs posting section.  History has shown forums work 
better.

[android-developers] Wrong 'eng capital letter' (\u014A) rendering in Android?

Hello all! I am developing a custom keyboard for Android. One of the 
letters I defined in my XML keyboard layout was 'eng' (\u014A). The trouble 
is, that Android renders this letter as 'Ŋ' instead of 'Ŋ 
'. In my implementation I need to use 
the second one, as it is the correct glyph in the language I am creating 
the keyboard for. Is there any way of forcing the second variant of the 
glyph in Java? Is it a system default behavior or is it a question of the 
font used? Any workaround for it?
