2016-05-25 Thread Dhaval Varia

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ambaitsystem.bcookbook

It has deployed one exciting feature Chit-Chat called TeaTalk.

Where Recipe Lovers can discuss about Recipe,Cooking,Restaurant Reviews & much

Re: [android-developers] Re: Increase icon size

2012-02-24 Thread Dhaval Varia
Thanks sir for your answer.

I am trying to increase icon of my app.

Reason is

1, my app should fire in emergency.

2,i had asked question, that if i can put my icon on locked screen then it
would be better.but reply was, that its not possible.

So i have only one way.which is increase size of my icon.

Any suggestion please?
On Feb 24, 2012 5:56 PM, Matthew Jacobs matthewrudyjac...@gmail.com
wrote:

Before this argument, you had a question.
And I'm not quite sure we answered it.

So say you want to increase the size of the icons?

Do you mean just the icon for your app?
 Or for all the apps?

The application icons are all the same size for a reason.
Otherwise it'd be an arms race of you chose the biggest icon.

The size of the icons are optimised the for the screen size and pixel
 density.

 So when building your app
you're requested to provide icons for each posible screen density.

If you in fact do want to create a whole new home screen
(and I'd guess from the fact you're just starting in Android, that you
 don't)
Then by all means look at the sample app.

 They all live here;
 http://developer.android.com/resources/browser.html?tag=sample

OK, fair enough, but I (we) have no way of knowing that. And even phones
have auto-complete and spell check. Your posts will be a lot easier to
understand and be taken more seriously (and thus you'll get better replies)
if you take the time, even on your phone, to user proper grammar and
spelling. *This will help you get help.*

You specifically asked me a question. Would you prefer next time that I

how to go about helping yourself.

Yes, precisely. The advice to to learn to navigate the documentation is, I
believe, good for everyone reading this list. It will save us all a lot of
time and effort if more people take more time up front to solve their own
 problems before asking for questions.

@Anil: Thanks for the comment. Appreciated.

With the android tool that's included in the sdk you can download sdks for
 previous platforms..

 2. I have installed my app on motorola android 2.1 ,it is giving error:

Probably, even if it's not because of that you still won't be able to
 install a 2.3 build on 2.1...

Basically the answer is: don't do this. If you do this, your app is
basically, violating a security hole in the android system. The behavior
that older lock screen apps use is not good practice, and will be (if it
has not already been) removed from the API so your app will cease to work.

Perhaps you think but my app is special.

 Answer: no, it's not.

Perhaps you think but only I will ever use my app, so I don't mind if it
breaks good coding practices, might be removed from the market for
violating security practices (highly unlikely..), and uses now considered
deprecated pieces of the API. Well, then perhaps the answer is to go
 right ahead.

In general if you're wanting to modify the behavior of the *system*, you
can't do it with an app.

Maybe it has something to do with the activity being suspended?

This is on an Android phone running 2.3.3 Gingerbread. I am trying to

GPS gives correct outputs... driving around in my car I have a phone
hooked up to my laptop and I read the output with logcat. Under the
same conditions, when I turn off the screen the GPS gives the same
location over and over, until I turn on my screen again at which time
 it works properly.

Here is my manifest file (note the WAKE_LOCK and GPS permissions as
 well as the LocationService definition):

When you press the Home button, there would be an Intent fired

So, you could write a receiver that tracks these particular kind of

There is no broadcast Intent for HOME. HOME is used with startActivity().

One could argue that you don't have time to reach for a phone in an
emergency, or you might not have a phone in an emergency, or your
phone might have a dead battery, or your phone does not have a mobile
 data or WiFi signal, etc.

Conversely, not all emergencies are necessarily that time-critical for
 the person with the phone.

Hence, the net value of being able to trigger your app via an external
mechanical means versus, say, a home screen app widget, is not that
 great, IMHO.

so it should fire on some hard key.
  so plz suggeat alternet solution

You can build your own phone, with your own dedicated hardware button
for emergencies, that will launch your own application via hooks from
 your own firmware.

Or, take another approach that does not require the app to be manually
 triggered in the emergency situation:

 http://commonsware.com/blog/2010/05/24/application-concept-resqr.html

Or, focus on creating a home screen app widget as your trigger, with
something to ensure that it is not accidentally invoked by the user.

 Or, write another app.

 Hi,

My requirement is to build an app that will send email to user at
regular intervals but without any input from the user. Is there any
way to do that? I am aware of the javamail-android available at the
following link but would like to know of any other way (perhaps
something mentioned in the official android documentation).

 http://code.google.com/p/javamail-android/

I am bit sceptical to use javamail-android because the source code for
the three jar files namely additionnal.jar, mail.jar, activation.jar
 is not available.

 Thanks,
 Ambi.

You don't. The only keys that are broadcast to all devices are
ACTION_CAMERA_BUTTON and ACTION_MEDIA_BUTTON, and the vast majority of
 devices have neither of those.

I'm 99% sure that I've read, around a dozen or so times in this list
over the last month or two, that you can't, period, as you don't have
access to the audio stream for the call.

If I'm wrong about that, someone please correct me.
