[android-developers] Custom Progress bar with white background not showing in 3.0 Tablet

2011-06-10 Thread Vinay Julme
Hi Guys,

I have created a custom progress dialog which has a white background and
contains the circular progress bar which is androids default.

It shows perfectly fine on 2.3 emulator with black circular background and a
white dot with a tail

But when initiated on tablet emulator there is no black background. It just
shows something white spinning on the white background.

I even tried a custom circular progress bar. But on 3.0 its not showing.

Can somebody please tell me what can be the solution.

If anyone wants i can give the code of the custom progress bar too or the
whole sample project.

If your project is built on Android 2.2 and above it can be moved to SD
card.

Re: [android-developers] Android is worst os mobile is this true

2011-10-05 Thread Vinay Julme
First of all Wanyce, your english sucks.

And Arabic support is there in Android since 2010.

Android is Open source. Who said its not?

Features are developed over the time so in some time all the features would
be available and it would have even those features which you also couldn't
think at the moment.

Bluetooth works perfectly fine. (Stop buying cheap 3rd grade devices from
non-warranty store.)

Android OS is open source that means anyone can get the OS and sell as its
own device. So really depends on manufacturer if it's a high end device or a
low end device. And I wasn't able to understand rest of the statement in
point 5 of yours, because as i said earlier that your English sucks.

And finally about versions, 2.x are for phones and 3.x are for tablets. Next
version could run on both. And support for older OS?? In which world do you
live? no one uses 1.5 or 1.6 so why to support older version? More over you
can upgrade your OS Over The Air. First of all get your logic straight about
why versions are created.

I guess you don't have enough work other than cribbing about stuff. And i
guess i don't have enough work to reply to stupid mails.(how pathetic)

Yo Miguel,

Don't demoralizes the kid.

and Yo kid Rajesh have you heard something called Google? If yes use
it. And before going to the interview try making few apps, with some
lateral thinking. Meaning how can i do the same thing differently, or
how can i make the same thing more efficient, faster and which would
use the least battery, etc...

And for starters look at these two links.

While loading the images from net you can do a lazy load. One of the sample

Good sample on how to display the list and then load images. But you would
have to customize it to your needs.

Re: [android-developers] How to pass a Context variable from one Activity to another ?

2010-11-03 Thread Vinay Julme
Not sure what you mean by context variables

Activity itself is a context... so while starting an activity you can pass
"this" (wild guess) in the bundle. But why would to want to pass it to
another activity?

Or do u mean some data of present activity would be required in the next
activity. Well then you can use bundle put extras. and then gather extras in
the new activity.

Or u can use static variables to share data between the two activities or
activity and service. And if you are not comfortable with the static
variables then data base is always there.

Re: [android-developers] Re: ListView OnClickListners Issue

2010-10-22 Thread Vinay Julme
I had the similar problem with the checkbox.

This link helped me out.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1121192/android-custom-listview-unable-to-click-on-items

<http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1121192/android-custom-listview-unable-to-click-on-items>It
states that these check boxes sort of overrides the onListItemClick, and
imposes its own methods over ListItem. So we would have to set
android:focusable="false" for the checkbox. In your case it maybe same and u
would have to set focusable as false for the button.

Weired but yes it happens.

Tell us if it worked for you?

Re: [android-developers] Re: how to show an activity only at the time of launch

2011-04-18 Thread Vinay Julme
Ho ho...

Use shared preferences. It is the best approach.

When your app starts a launcher activity gets called. now in its onCreate
method check for your shared preferences.Check for shared preferences just
after setContentView(). If this value is not set then you can start your
registration activity or else if it is set you can continue with the
present activity.

and then you can write other functions in onStart method.

Besides registration same can be used for login process too.

Vinay

[android-developers] Trouble running Android NDK

2011-05-09 Thread Vinay Julme
I'm want to compile native code in Windows.

I downloaded cygwin and also installed it.

Then i downloaded and installed Android NDK too.

but i'm facing few issues.

At first when i go to the project folder and run ndk-build then i get an
error
**
ERROR: Cannot find 'make' program. Please install Cygwin make package
or define the GNUMAKE variable to point to it.
**

So i think on maybe by assigning GNUMAKE path by C:\cygwin\bin it should
work but then i get a new error
*
ERROR: Your GNUMAKE variable is defined to an invalid name: C:\cygwin\bin
Please fix it to point to a valid make executable (e.g. /usr/bin/make)
*

I'm not sure what am i doing wrong. I checked google too. But wasn't able to
solve the issue from solutions provided there.
Few of the solutions which didn't work were
1. Spaces in the project path. My project path doesn't have any spaces.
2. I even had a new make.exe from the site if in case the make file was not
a compatible file type.
3. I even reinstalled the whole cygwin development package.

Can anyone please share how they have solved this issue.

Regards

Vinay Julme

[android-developers] Passing unsigned char* from JNI/C++ to Java

2011-05-13 Thread Vinay Julme
In my code i pass a string and then hash it using HMAC SHA1 algo and then
try to return it to Java. But it is not returning. It crashes or stop as VM
aborts.

The code that aborts is as follows:

return env->NewStringUTF((const char*)digest);
On this statement VM Aborts.

where digest is and unsigned char which has a hashed characters. I logged
digest variable and it showed some ascii values. Probably after hashing it
mush have got few characters like that.

My code is as follows:

typedef unsigned char BYTE ;
unsigned char *test = (unsigned char *)"Hi There" ;
BYTE Key[20] ;
BYTE digest[20] ;
jstring Java_com_example_hellojni_HelloJni_stringFromJNI( JNIEnv* env,
jobject thiz )
{
   memset(Key, 0x0b, 20) ;

Next 2 lines are for Hashing the given text
   CHMAC_SHA1 HMAC_SHA1 ;
   HMAC_SHA1.HMAC_SHA1(test, strlen((const char *)test), Key,
sizeof(Key), digest) ;

   __android_log_write(ANDROID_LOG_ERROR,"Hello-Sample",(const char
*)digest);
   jstring temp = env->NewStringUTF((const char*)digest);
return temp;
}

While executingenv->NewStringUTF((const char*)digest);  VM aborts

Can someone please tell me how can i rectify it.

Re: [android-developers] Parsing a large amount of data from a xml

Androids Pull parser is also good and easy to use. Performance is just below
SAX parser, the only thing in favor is that its easier to use.
