That's based in how your are designing the UI, if you are using fragment,
then you should go with the different layouts or else you can gohead with
the current thing.

I am not sure what it is, I had read in a blog that while app is in
background or killed the data part will not be recieved!!!

I am just throwing my ideas, I have not implemented this.

1) define service as a separate process.
2) in that service add finger print authentication listener and get the
corresponding crypto object for authentication.
3) once it is authenticated call handler
4) implement audio recorder in that handler,
5) save the results in external memory.
