We have urgent requirement's with one of our client's, please review below job description and let me know your interest Position ID : DYES00006552 Title: Splunk Engineer/Administrator Location: North Chicago Duration: 12 Months+ Locals preferred Description: Splunk Engineer/Administrator is needed to develop and grow our Splunk environment and work with infrastructure and application teams that have varying levels of Splunk knowledge. This position will work closely with Infrastructure, Application, Network, Security, and Business Intelligence teams getting started with Splunk. Provides technical design, implementation and life cycle support of solutions in Splunk. Applies IT knowledge, specialized technical experience, research, and analysis to create technical solution specification that meets requirements. Drives implementation and provides technical support for escalated operational incidents and problems. Monitors and reports task assignment progress and status as required and escalates risks and issues to key stakeholders. Proactively identifies opportunities for continuous improvement by evaluating new technologies, tools and engineering methods that are applicable within area of responsibility and expertise. Responsibilities: * Act as the Splunk liaison for Splunk technical questions, issues or escalations. This will include working with Splunk Support or others as needed. * Develop custom dashboards, reports and alerts for Splunk users to be deployed via a deployment server. * Perform data onboarding - obtain data requirements and samples, create indexes, implement data feeds, create props and transforms with CIM compliance. * Dissect vendor apps for distributed deployment to heavy forwarders, indexers, and search heads. * Mentor members of the technical staff to support and assist in Splunk-related activities. * Act as a teaching resource for colleagues with less experience. * Monitor and maintain Splunk performance, availability, and capacity. * Support large-scale app deployments with data feeds from multiple data sources. * Support and guide client resources including Knowledge Managers, Developers and Users for increasing Splunk adoption and overall customer success. * Create and maintain documentation related to architecture and operational processes for Splunk * Engage application and infrastructure teams to establish best practices for utilizing Splunk data and visualizations * Maintain regulatory awareness and compliance. * Track work effectively. Qualifications: * Minimum High School Diploma or GED * Minimum 3+ years of experience with SPLUNK - creating searches, dashboards, reports, alerts. * Proficiency in navigating on-premise large-scale distributed Splunk deployments with separate deployment, license, and monitoring console servers controlling indexer clusters, search head clusters, and load balanced Heavy Forwarders, with daily ingestion in the 2 to 4TB range. * Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in data onboarding from varied data sources - application log files, remote syslogs, HTTP event collectors, Windows Event Logs, scripted inputs, and dedicated vendor apps. * Proficiency in creating custom sourcetypes to parse complicated non-standard data formats. * Proficiency in Redhat Linux (on-premise hosts for Splunk deployment, plus universal forwarders) - must be comfortable with the command line for editing Splunk and rSyslog configuration files. * Proficiency in Windows (universal forwarder hosts) for locating and examining sample data to be onboarded. * Proficiency with Splunk DBconnect. * Experience with internal Splunk role-based controls to limit access to Splunk data. * Familiarity with data formats for common external network data sources - routers, switches, citrix servers, firewalls, federation services. * Strong technical, analytic and problem-solving skills combined with the ability to provide quick resolution to problems. * Exceptional verbal, written, organizational, presentation, and communication skills. * Experience with scripting languages to automate tasks and manipulate data. * Experience with source code management systems - Github desired.
