So you want to use the Google maps to search for something from your application? I think what you mean is that you can use intents to do things in other applications. Sure, this is possible, but like TreKing mentioned, you have to set it up correctly. So far I don't think too many things do this... I don't have a way of quantifying that number, however, so I could be off. ( http://www.openintents.org/en/).
