This is news to me. Was the feature of detecting whether the device is
running as root initially in the Market application, or this is a
recent change?

Thanks

2009-04-01 Thread clark

Root-enabled G1s are still able to see copy-protected apps. I think
it is just the ADP phones that the market detects, because my rooted
G1 is able to see copy-protected apps, and download them. I have
verified this by looking in the app-private folder on the phone and
seeing that the app that I purhcased was there.

Aha, so until rooted phones can't see copy-protected apps I don't see
any reasons to protect my app. If just 1 user can download and share
it with the world it is meaningless to waste twice the space on the
user's phone for nothing.

[android-developers] Re: *** Why 1 G1 can see Paid Apps in the Android Market and Another Not? ***

2009-04-01 Thread Jean-Baptiste Queru

Dev phones indeed explicitly don't get OTA updates, for several reasons:

-developers are assumed to be capable of manually updating their phones.
-those phones are designed to allow running custom versions of the
system, and an automated update could cause some damage.
-developers have legitimate reasons to downgrade their devices back to
older versions, and OTA updates would be constantly trying to
re-upgrade such devices.
-finally, it'd be very unfortunate if a developer's long debugging
session came to be interrupted and lost because of an OTA update.

If you have an ADP1 and require some assistance to update it to the
latest official version of android available for it, the
android-devphone-updating group might already have the answer for
you... and if it doesn't, feel free to ask questions there about the
details of the process.

My guess would be a phased rollout based on device IDs.

That way the scalability can be tested and rolled back if neccessary.

Or, alternatively, they might think you're greedy having 2 G1s and so
will only give you the service on 1 :) :) :).

I don't believe this is a matter of an OTA updates but rather
datacenter propagation thus it would depend on which Android Market
   datacenter the G1 is pinging.

In my case I have 2 G1s (side by side) and 1 can see the paid apps
while the other doesn't….could only assume they are both pinging the
   same DC.

(I have already tried the reboot theory to no avail)

   Any formal explanation for this???

   Thank You,
   Michael Martin

[android-developers] Re: *** Why 1 G1 can see Paid Apps in the Android Market and Another Not? ***

2009-02-20 Thread aclelland

Have you maybe set one up with an account which is linked to a google
account outside the US/UK?

If not a slow rollout is probably the best reason for them not showing
up. Same thing happens with iGoogle and gMail updates.

2009-02-20 Thread Josh Dobbs
Robert, Does your Android Market listings page show any downloads? Mine does
not but according to google checkout I sold 1 application at 7 pm last
night. I don't see any feedback, downloads or anything.

My guess would be a phased rollout based on device IDs.

That way the scalability can be tested and rolled back if neccessary.

Or, alternatively, they might think you're greedy having 2 G1s and so
will only give you the service on 1 :) :) :).
