[android-developers] Re: Invoking search by hardware key

2009-09-15 Thread David Horn

Just an update on this: after checking the logs, these entries were
saved:

When pushing the hardware button:
09-15 14:36:35.506: WARN/KeyCharacterMap(63): Bad keycharmap -
filesize=32

When calling onSearchRequested() from a menu button:
09-15 14:37:02.876: WARN/InputManagerService(63): Window already
focused, ignoring focus gain of:
com.android.internal.view.iinputmethodclient$stub$pr...@43601b70

Sorry if this sounds like a really stupid question, but I'm really
struggling to understand the SearchManager documentation.

How do I actually invoke a search from the hardware search button in
my application?  I've added the relevant code to the Manifest file,
but pushing the button has absolutely no effect.

The API is very unclear - is this something that should be handled
automatically from the Activity class, or have I got to override
something?  Have I got to include a hardware key listener?

Any help or pointers are appreciated!

Further update:

Overriding onSearchRequested() works, so the problem lies in the
startSearch call.
