Ok, I got it to work.
I HAD to add a scroll view to the text view.
<ScrollView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android";
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:isScrollContainer="true"
android:scrollbars="vertical|horizontal"
android:scrollbarStyle="outsideOverlay" >
<TextView>
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:inputType="text|textMultiLine"
android:scrollHorizontally="false"
</TextView>
And for the word wrap to work, see the attributes for TextView above.
