You may want to buy a Lego Mindstorms kit that has electric motors.  


Also, you may want to look up "servo" motors.


I would think you can send Bluetooth signals to a motor.


Also, you may want to visit a Brookstone store to see the state of the art 
in this domain (i.e. RC cars controlled by app).

You could use a USB to Serial converter to communicate with motor
controller. To start you can use the Slick USB 2 SERIAL Terminal
application. What type of controller are you using?

arduino-based motorcontroller - Stopped after a bit of experimenting though.
