You need to rebuild the kernel modules. Google for more details.

[arch-general] Archlinux in Vmware Workstation 7.1.4

2011-08-07 Thread Tong Zhang
Hi, All!

I am now using Archlinux this is my `uname -a` result:

Linux myarch 3.0-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Aug 6 16:18:35 CEST 2011 x86_64
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linu

In vmware workstation 7.1.4, and several days ago, when I was still running
kernel 2.6.39, my open-vm-tools worked OK, I can access my shared folder,
but when I updated the kernel to 3.0, the shared folder mount point
disappeared, someboy help! Thanks very much!

As I understand it, the differences between versions 3.0-1 and 3.0-2 should
be minimal. Usually, in this type of changes there is not even necessary to
recompile anything. But this time, and now again with 3.0.1-1, instead of
compilation errors, I get this message:

Unable to initialize module building library

The log only says:

[gleira@guillelinux vmware-gleira]$ cat setup-2245.log
ago 07 14:55:03.105: app-140484333979392| Log for VMware Workstation

library

I have been unable to find anything about this messages (at least, anything
that helps me).

Should I file a bug?

Best Regards,

Guillermo Leira

Re: [arch-general] Canon MP280 turboprint

2011-08-07 Thread Martti Kühne
R7h0re4 said it works on Debian 32. As I understand it, it should be
possible to clone the config on other distributions. If you can't
clone it, ask the debian devs what they did there.
Another hacky suggestion, although not very nice to resources, but may
spare config-diving: run a virtual machine with an os which works with
the canon printer, and use it as a print server. You can make snapshot
with some virtual machines, which would speed up starting and stopping
the server, which just could be automated in a script.

There are some errors in the manual, like:
> To make sure alsa module is loaded at every boot we have to add the module in

Alsa daemon doesn't load "alsa module" (I think there's no such
thing). It just saves and restores volume.
