It does not matter that much. The cpufreq modules are not loaded by
default. But that might change some day. On my old Opteron cpu I noticed
an increased response time when using the ondemand governor. On the
other hand I have seen cheap notebooks which will overheat easily if you
don't clock down the cpu most of the time. I think Thomas was concerned
about p4-clockmod. But this isn't a real clock scaling driver anyway; so
shouldn't be used with cpufreq.

In short: the user has to decide what is best for them.

Thats why I changed it, Thomas comes up with the concerns.
You can always use cpufreq to change to whatever you need though.
I have no issues with changing it again to ondemand or let it on
performance.
Shall we vote about it?

Could you point me to some more info about this (I couldn't find any
bug reports)? I'm interested in following up on it so we can one day
move to ondemand by default. For what it's worth, fedora and opensuse
have been using ondemand for some time. Is it known why we are seeing
problems and they are not?

My understanding was that ondemand is recommended by upstream
(http://www.codon.org.uk/~mjg59/power/good_practices.html), and that
it should automatically fall back to performance if the HW latencies
are too high. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers,

Tom

Run abs and look again...

It's non-default behavior, but it's not actually a patch - just a
compile-time option. See the "_bashconfig" variable in the PKGBUILD.

[arch-general] non-login bash

2011-10-08 Thread Jorge Almeida
Please help me to understand how bash does its initialization when
started as a non-login shell. The manual says it sources ~/.bashrc and
that's it. The Arch Wiki says it sources /etc/bash.bashrc and then
~/.bashrc. Sure enough, it does what the Wiki says... It occurred to
me to look in the Wiki, after much trouble, the kind of trouble that
happens from trusting the manuals.
Did I misunderstood the manual or is Arch distributing a patched
version? (Somewhat contrary to the Arch way, if I understood it.)

TIA

Jorge Almeida

Thanks Thomas,
I'll try this sometime during the next days and report back with any
findings.

I'll also try the b43 driver again, but it didn't work for my
[14e4:4315] BCM4312 in the past. Guess it's worth a try though.

That doesn't say a lot, the "RUNNING" flag disappears when you
disassociate. I am out of ideas here.

Maybe you can get more info by putting
 WPA_OPTS="-d -f /var/log/wpa_supplicant.log"
into /etc/network.d/interfaces/wlan0. Or replace -d with -dd. But be
careful, the log file becomes HUGE with -dd.

The 'rfkill list' output is identical, ifconfig is different, but I
don't know how to interpret the output:

The i686-config in SVN seems wrong to me. It has performance governor as
module and ondemand built-in.
There are also differences in the two configs caused by

I cannot see any reason for the disconnects. If wpa_supplicant doesn't
reconnect on its own, I don't understand why restarting it would help.
Can you compare 'ifconfig' before and after disconnect, as well as
'rfkill list'?

I took some time today to fiddle with netcfg, ifplugd, net-auto-wireless
and wpa_actiond. Your script, slightly modified, works fine in my case
Thomas, thanks. Took me a bit to figure that it needs to replace
ifplugd.action though.

Now with net-auto-wireless before ifplugd in the daemons-array the
system works fine (as long as I'm not too fast with unplugging and
replugging). I get just cable at home and wireless at university,
everything's fine, except that I still get disconnected from the
university wlan about every 30 minutes. net-auto-wireless didn't change
a thing in this regard. Here's an excerpt from everything.log, pretty
beginning with bootup. The reconnects in there are from manually running
'/etc/rc.d/net-auto-wireless restart', the thing that I tried to avoid.
I have no idea why these disconnects happen:

[arch-general] 2011.10-1 archboot "2k11-R6" ISO hybrid image released

2011-10-08 Thread Tobias Powalowski
Hi Arch community,

Arch Linux (archboot creation tool) 2011.10-1, "2k11-R6" has been released.
To avoid confusion, this is not an official arch linux iso release!

Homepage and for more information on archboot:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Archboot

Forum:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=127923

Summary:
- Only use one lzma initrd for each architecture, plain bugfix release.

Hybrid image file and torrent is provided, which include
i686 and x86_64 core repository. Please check md5sum before using it.

Hybrid image file is a standard CD-burnable image and also a raw disk image.
- Can be burned to CD(RW) media using most CD-burning utilities.
- Can be raw-written to a drive using 'dd' or similar utilities.
This method is intended for use with USB thumb drives.

Please get it from your favorite arch linux mirror:
- /iso/archboot/2011.10/

Have fun,
greetings

I guess you need to look at [1], especially the part where you call locale-gen.
As for the rest of the messages, I can't help because I don't
understand what looks Spanish to me.

cheers!
