Easy, easy ...

First - you don't lose anything, just rename the files back and you're
good to go.

Second - it's already fixed in 1.8.2, see

Ugh, never mind. I didn't see the message printed post-install. Carry on

[arch-general] Regarding CUPS in [testing]

The CUPS package in testing changes the names of two systemd
service/socket files from cupsd.service and cups.{socket,service,path}
to org.cups.cupsd.{socket,service,path}. It is indeed quite frightening
to try to print something and to find out that cups.socket does not

Don't "suspect". Especially when you have little to no experience with
server software it's paramount to check the logs. Even when at first you
don't understand what's getting logged, it's important there are logfiles
in the first place.

Right, don't treat email as some minor dependency; a proper mailserver
setup takes its time, probably moreso than any wiki, CMS or other web
thingie.

The easiest route would probably mean to install a minimal MTA providing
/usr/bin/sendmail, like 'msmtp-mta' or 'nullmailer', and to configure it
to forward mails through some existing mail account of yours.
You might need to tweak the envelope sender address of the generated
mails on your server or test with several different mail accounts as some
providers don't forward mails from external domains, but all that is
still way simpler than hosting your own Postfix.

But in case you also need/want to _receive_ emails ... well, then there's
no way around to learn at least the basics of Postfix/SMTP/DNS/etc.

Qupzilla was the browser I used. The latest update comes with the

users lose the complete history. Such a fundamental attitude from

[arch-general] packages and configuration required to send e-mails from php.

2014-10-09 Thread mick
I'm setting up an apache, php, drupal 7 site and need to be able to send
e-mails from the site but getting lost trying to find out what I need as far as
system packages, php extensions and how to configure them all. I've tried a
couple of scripts for php and they report they have succeeded but the test mail
never arrives in my inbox.

I suspect that php & drupal are working but I need something in the way of a
mail server set up for them to work through.

The Postfix was package was installed as a dependancy of something I installed
but the help files seem to me to require a sound understanding of e-mail
systems and their jargon which I don't have.

Is there some kind soul out there who has the time and knowledge to help me get
this working?

[arch-general] Fast User Switching does not seem to work

2014-10-09 Thread constantine
Hello all!

I am not sure this is the appropriate mailing list, and I have also
posted to intel-...@lists.freedesktop.org (without any solution) and
systemd-de...@lists.freedesktop.org
Please indicate if you recommend me posting the problem to another list.

I am encountering a peculiar problem with Fast User Switching or
Kernel Mode Setting and I do not know how to troubleshoot it.

Suppose the following tty2,3 or VTs:
1. Ctrl+Alt+F2:logged in user in console (no X)
2. Ctrl+Alt+F3:logged in user in console (no X)
3. Ctrl+Alt+F4:logged in user in Desktop Environment (X)
4. Ctrl+Alt+F5:logged in user in Desktop Environment (X)

>From 1 to 2, or 2 to 1 there is no delay.

>From 3,4 to 1,2 there **is** delay.
>From 3 to 4, or 4 to 3, there **is**delay.

In words: when I run two (or more) Virtual Terminals switching between
them (Ctrl+Alt+F4-5, etc.) takes 2+ seconds. (The VTs are either
simply initiated with startx from tty2 and tty3 and having only TWM,
xorg-clock and xterm as their open windows OR as different displays
with KDisplay Manager (kdm) in :0 and :1)

I am using an intel graphics driver so I suppose KMS should be enabled
by default and this seems to be the case, but there still are delays
swithing between VTs.

I have followed the instructions at
http://carlosbecker.com/posts/how-to-enable-kms-on-i915-graphiccard-archlinux/
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/kernel_mode_setting
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_graphics after a fresh Arch
Linux installation, but I am still experiencing the problem.

I am certain it is not a hardware related issue, because I can fast
switch in ubuntu, but not in Arch linux.

My Arch uses systemd and Ubuntu upstart.

Last, I am aware of the systemd's on-demand "feature" of spawning
terminals but I think it is not related to this, since I think I
correctly "pre-spawned" them.

How can I make switching between VTs as instantaneous as possible?

I had a look. About 80 percent of all requests are SELECT statements. I
have monitored the general query log and there are request every few
seconds. So mariadb idles most of the time. I see no reason why it
stucks on 100 percent cpu usage...

"skip-network". My setup is not that big. I host 5 wordpress sites and

Apache is most of the time in idle state and -- as I mentioned before --

I'm almost positive that HQ videos use H.264, so not having that is causing
your problems. Firefox does support H.264, you just need to have the correct
packages. According to the firefox package you need to have "gst-libav" and
"gst-plugins-good". If you have those installed it should solve your problem.

2. I open the youtube video and usually I then try to switch using the
bottom buttons in the player, but there is only the option for 360p
and of course "automatic".

Have you installed the appropriate drivers for your graphics card? [^1]

I am wondering if flash detects no acceleration. Also, have you tried HD
playback either with flash-less browser or a file with vlc?

An under-powered laptop, clearly..

How do you try to play the video over 360p and what happens?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Google represents available quality at

[arch-general] Mariadb eats system ressources

2014-10-09 Thread rumpelsepp
Hi,

after struggling with this problem for one week I have finally decided
to post on the arch list for getting some help. I have a very strange
problem with mariadb from the official repos.

I run a usual LAMP stack (apache, php-fpm, mariadb) on archlinux. Since
one week (or so) I have realized a very strange behavior: One mariadb
process stucks on 100 percent CPU usage. I am not able to figure out
what's going on. Restarting mariadb fixes the problem for a few hours.
Here is a list of a few debug outputs [1]; I have put it in my pastebin
because my email client would wrap the text at 80 chars. If you need
even more information I can update the paste.

The mariadb status page shows about 6,5 queries per second (!) and I
don't know where this comes from. I have disabled remote access with
"skip-networking" (mysql port is closed) and the PROCESSLIST does only
show one process. I thought it might be an DDoS attack on a website but
no apache access-log grows unexpectedly. Even after stopping apache
mariadb stucks on 100 percent cpu usage.

I figured out that there are listed a lot of connections in the output
of "show status like 'Con%';". Last hour I even had about 5000
connections but there are no appropriate queries visible in the general
log. The general log lists the wordpress queries which are executed when
I click on my homepage. Everything looks fine; the cpu usage does not!
Do you have any ideas what I can do to figure out what's going on with
my mariadb?

Thanks in advance!

Stefan

That isn't a good idea that overwrites CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS entirely rather
than appending.

Regardless of that there are several ways of specifying flags. It can
be done at the target level (e.g. target_compile_definitions(mylib
COMPILE_OPTIONS ...) ) or globally using CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS_*. There are
several flags for different release types, e.g.

CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS_DEBUG
CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS_MINSIZEREL
CMAKE_CXX_RELEASE
CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS

I believe there are other ways to set flags as well. You should look
at how the developers have set their flags in their CMakeLists.txt
files and do it the same way.

As a hack you could check what's set the CMake cache and manually change it

$ make edit_cache

[arch-general] Removing compiler flag from CMake output

2014-10-09 Thread Marcel Korpel
Hi,

As I already feared, someone tried to build mysql-connector-c++ [1]
against libmysqlclient 5.6.20-1, which results in the following error:

…/driver/mysql_metadata.cpp:1216:74: error: ‘dynamic_cast’ not
permitted with -fno-rtti

How do I remove that compiler flag from CMake output?

I already tried adding -frtti to CXXFLAGS in makepkg.conf, but this
didn't change the compiler flags. I also tried to add it as an
environment variable to the cmake call in PKGBUILD and add a

set(CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS "-frtti")

at several places in …/CMakeLists.txt, but to no avail, CMake keeps
saying

-- MySQL CXXFLAGS: -I/usr/include/mysql -fPIC -pipe -msse4.1 -mmmx
-fomit-frame-pointer -fstack-protector-strong --param=ssp-buffer-size=4
-fno-strict-aliasing -DBIG_JOINS=1 -felide-constructors -fno-rtti -g
-DNDEBUG

And why isn't this a problem when building against libmariadbclient
10.0.14?

Regards,
Marcel

Yes, solved thank you by changing the mobile mode.

Further observations:

At xfce start, a dialogue dialogue windows appears advising an error

The mobile phone reports successful connection after approval to connect
to the computer, confirmed by identical mac addresses on both portable
computer and mobile phone. However, the wicd-gtk states not connection
and confirmed by failed use of lynx to access a web site.

Internet access is possible via usb mobile phone tether. Is there a
connection notification tool (i.e. a dialogue window that appears when
usb tether connection is enabled and disabled) compatible with xfce?

[arch-general] virt-clone change qcow2 to raw, fully reproducible.

2014-10-09 Thread An Nguyen
Hello all,

I am having a problem with virt-clone on Arch Linux always changes a
QCOW2 image into RAW. I've seen this bug being reported to RedHat at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=795400. The last status
seems that the bug was fixed upstream in Fedora 17.

However, on ArchLinux, virt-clone still converts any QCOWS2 image into
RAW. I would like to know if this is a known ArchLinux's specific bug
or this is another issue with upstream.

Regard.
An.
