[arch-general] FreeCAD and KiCAD depend on different opencascade versions

2020-12-11 Thread Ricardo Band
Ohai,

I'd like to use FreeCAD and KiCAD on the same system but I can't
install them both from the official repos because kicad depends on
opencascade und freecad depends on opencascade74. I can't install both
because these two opencascades don't like to be installed together.

Is their a solution in sight? Can we recompile freecad against the
newer opencascade?

At the moment I'm using the AppImage version of freecad and the repo
version of kicad.

I don't think this has anything todo with my problem. Mine is
persistent since several kernel updates and I could eliminate it today
completly by disabling the internal graphics of the Xeon CPU.
I'm watching a movie now since over half an hour with no crashes.

Ahoi,

I have a server that crashes in a few seconds when I start playing
movies with plex and transcode them. Kernel, BIOS and Firmware updates
and even changes most of the hardware didn't change anything.

I thought maybe on this list are a few poeple that still have some
ideas. I wrote the whole problem in much more detail down in the bbs:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1911198#p1911198

Do you have any ideas? I'm completely out of them. If you have
questions ask me here or there.

Thx for your help!

Now I feel stupid. I just put a fresh 2020.06 image on a stick and it
booted fine.
After looking a bit closer I found that I have 2 USB sticks attached.
Both come up as Sandisk Partition 1. I just used the wrong one which
still had the 2020.05 image on it.

So, thx Dave. You fixed the 2020.05 problem for me too.

btw I found a good korean place. We still wanted to meet sometime. ;)

[arch-general] Problem with packaging pyxdg and xdg from PyPI

2020-04-04 Thread Ricardo Band

Hash: SHA512

Ahoi,

I maintain a tool called virtualfish [1] on the AUR. It is writte in
python and one dependency of it is called xdg [2]. It is not packaged
in archlinux so I would just do that on the AUR. Problem is there
already is a package in archlinux extra which is called python-xdg [3].
That package includes a python library called pyxdg [4] which does
nearly the same as xdg but is still a different library.

In my opinion the arch packages python-xdg and python2-xdg have an
incorrect name. They should be called python-pyxdg so the xdg module
could be packaged under python-xdg.

The naming schema with the python-py prefix looks odd but isn't new. It
is already used in the pyserial [5] package.

How do we solve this problem?

Mine had some weird behaviour but nothing a reconnect or reordering of

The displays are connected via HDMI and a DP->HDMI adapter. I got my
desktop PC connected to the DP ports of the monitors. The dock uses the
HDMI ports.

I booted into windows and updated everything. Including thunderbold and
dock firmware. Nothing changed. Still the same behaviour.
I'm also back on the newest nvidia driver (435.21-4).

I'm out of ideas. I could try to boot without the nvidia. maybe it
works with only intel. But I'm not sure if that is even possible. Ports
could be wired to the nvidia card.

[arch-general] 2x 1440p displays not working on thunderbold dock anymore

2019-09-14 Thread Ricardo Band
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Ahoi,

I use Arch on a Thinkpad T480 with the Lenovo Thunderbold 3 dock. I've
attached 2 1440p monitors to it and I was using them for a while now.
For a few days or so I can't get them to work anymore. Usually I
disable my Notebooks internal screen and enable the 2 1440p displays
like this:

```
xrandr --output DP1-1 --mode 2560x1440 --refresh 144
xrandr --output eDP --off
xrandr --output DP1-2 --mode 2560x1440 --refresh 144 --right-of DP1-1
```

This used to work quite nicely. No idea if the refresh rate actually
worked. I have no way to test that but the resolution sure did.

Now when I do this I get this error:

```
xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed
```

I can only drive both displays at 1920x1080. When I increase the
resolution to 2560x1440 I get this error and the higher resolution
can't be set.

I don't know why this doesn't work anymore. Could it be a driver issue?
I've got a nvidia GPU with the proprietary driver and the integrated
intel with the open source driver and it wouldn't be the first time
intel or nvidia fucked their drivers up.

[arch-general] QT apps try to be HiDPI on a non HiDPI monitor

Ahoi,

I have a 1920x1080 monitor in my notebook which is afaik not HiDPI.
Even if I launch for example qtpass with:

env QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=0 QT_SCALE_FACTOR=1
QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS=1 QT_DEVICE_PIXEL_RATIO=1
QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE=gtk2 QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct GDK_BACKEND=x11
qtpass

It looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/jKLbeLF

I tried everything but it didn't change anything. I'm using i3, so no
fancy desktop environment that could help or not help. ;)

why not just `dd if=/dev/olddrive of=/dev/newdrive` and then grow the
filesystems in it change UUIDs in fstab, done?

[arch-general] arch-audit didn't survive the openssl upgrade to 1.1.0

2017-04-27 Thread Ricardo Band
Ahoi,

arch-audit in version 0.1.8-2 still looks for openssl 1.0.0:

arch-audit: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.1.0.0:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

After installing openssl-1.0 it works again.

I see 2 solutions here. Update arch-audit to use OpenSSL 1.1 or add
openssl-1.0 as a dependency to arch-audit package.

Yep. But shouldn't the home dir be recreated when I reinstall the
package?
It seems that the package only executes a useradd command that creates
the user home. If the user already exists that command seems to return
true without recreating the home.

The package could check for the dir after that and if it's not there
create it. The package method in the PKGBUILD already includes the
creation of the directory but it doesn't seem to fire if the user is
already there. Which is a bit weird because I don't see any check for
the user in there [1].

[arch-general] Removing gitolite package doesn't remove gitolite user

2017-03-31 Thread Ricardo Band
Ahoi,

I was removing gitolite because I fucked my setup up. When I
reinstalled it to start from scratch, I ran into a problem.

The /var/lib/gitolite folder wasn't created when I reinstalled the
package. I found out that the gitolite user also still existed. I
removed it and reinstalled gitolite. Now the directory was created like
it should.

I think this is a bug. When gitolite is uninstalled it should also
remove the gitolite user.
If the user is for some reason still needed after uninstall, another
solution would be to correctly recreate the /var/lib/gitolite directory
when installing the package and the gitolite user is detected.
