I can login with mesa 18.0.0-4 on KDE-Wayland with RX480.
A Qt based 3D application (Slicer) loads, but can't render a
3D model. Now I didn't try with mesa 18.0.0-3. No problem
on pure X however.

Of course I won't, ;-)

Thanks for the clear explanations, at least I understand what's happening,
it's up to remote to fix.

Where will be the log file ? current working directory ?

Userspace tools, SE policies... the 'users interested in trying out SELinux'
won't do that.

>but wouldn't you agree that the Wiki page asking you to compile

A huge interest will lead them to build from scratch.

The theoretical next step is not a natural move. Arch users do not have
military grade security needs. Even sensitive industries like power plants, or
less sensitive businesses like the post office, won't use a bleeding edge
distro
like Arch.

One more silent follower : I think it's the DBA's responsibility to know what
he's doing when upgrading his box. Blind upgrade of any DB server is faulty.
In Arch's Postgresql wiki's page, it's clearly stated that pacman.conf must
have IgnorePkg = postgresql postgresql-libs.

We cannot blame packaging / warnings / pacman ... here. Test on a lab server
before touching a production one.

There's a kcm module in systemsettings to manage the service, you don't have
to do all this.

Unfortunately, no better luck.

Both use KDE, kdm as login manager fglrx from AMD website. On the failing
machine, I tried fglrx from the AUR with same results. The radeon driver fails
to load because of lack of UMS support in the kernel. In any case, without any
GUI up, it still does not resume properly.

Detailed hardware differences are below, sorry if too verbose.

I must say that on the problematic machine, suspend-resume works well with
kernel 3.8.7, a custom build (not really knowledgeably), with which I'm stuck
since long.

I have not yet tested linux-lts as the wiki suggests, will do so ASAP.

Thanks for considering.

[arch-general] Resume from suspend in RAM fails

2014-01-15 Thread nmset
Hello,

Resume from suspend in RAM fails even though I have followed the Arch Wiki
recommendations, with latest 3.12.7 kernel (and before). The 'resume' hook has
been added for mkinitcpio and the machine goes to suspend from the command
line (pm-suspend) with no GUI enabled.

All keyboard and mouse lights are off and the screen is just black with no
backlight. I can't even login through SSH and can't get any PM debug info.

It happens on one particular machine only and I'm quite stuck with it.

Any suggestions to solve this ? I can provide other relevent information if
required.

Thanks.
