[Archivesspace_Users_Group] PUI search result question

2017-09-08 Thread Kevin Clair
Hello,

We upgraded to 2.1.1 about a week or two ago, and one of the issues our
archivists noticed related to the new PUI is that collections show up very far
down in the search results, relative to the staff interface. As an example, a
keyword search for “peter dominick” in the staff interface returns the
collection of his papers as the very first hit; at
http://duarchives.coalliance.org, it doesn’t show up until page seven.

Is that something I can configure in the PUI settings in the config.rb file?
For reference purposes it’s hard to have to scroll through multiple pages of
results to land on the result for the collection. thanks! -k

Thank you everyone. Trying some directions from UVA … will see how that goes
on Monday AM.
If it works, we’ll be good … if not I resend an update. We have been using
github links so keeping my fingers crossed. Tara

We also experienced the unzipping issue with 1.5.0. Try 1.5.1 instead.

Hi Tara,

What links are broken that you’re trying to access? I’m able to access the
github links:

https://github.com/archivesspace/archivesspace/blob/master/UPGRADING_1.5.0.md
http://archivesspace.github.io/archivesspace/user/upgrading-to-a-new-release-of-archivesspace/

I was also able to unzip the 1.5.0 zip:

https://github.com/archivesspace/archivesspace/releases/tag/v1.5.0

Are you attempting to access the github or looking somewhere else?

Thanks,
Maura

Good afternoon again. I sent out the previous email this morning.
We need some help upgrading from 1.4.2.

In the process of using the installation links available, none of the links are
working.

Where can we find a clean installation file to take us from 1.4.2 to 2.1.2
We understand we may need to run two installations to get us from 1.4 to 2.1
But we cannot find installation files that work.
The zip file for 1.5.0 will not properly unzip without errors.
The zip file for 2.0.0 unzips but appears to be incomplete: missing set up
database.dat file that we need.

Thank you for any help you can give. We are at a stand still until we get some
help with upgrade installation.

Good morning.

Hoping some can answer my question about upgrading to the current Archives
Space version.

We received the announcement for 2.1.1 and are in the process of upgrading from
1.4.2.

When we go to the web site to upgrade there is now a 2.1.2.

As a rule, I usually pick the last point release in a series as expected to be
the least buggy.

In this case, that would be 1.5.4and 2.1.2 .

You can also look at the release notes for the point releases and see if any of
the bug fixes seem significant or necessary. But when in doubt, I'ld go for
the latest minor release in a series.

The UPGRADING_2.1.0.md doc:

https://github.com/archivesspace/archivesspace/blob/master/UPGRADING_2.1.0.md

says that migrating from 1.4.2 or lower REQUIRES an intermediate upgrade to
something between 1.5.0 and 2.0.1. But due to some problems we've seen from
the container migration, see email thread from back in January with Subject:
Indexer Errors in 1.5.2

http://lyralists.lyrasis.org/pipermail/archivesspace_users_group/2017-January/thread.html

and probably some other threads, I recommend migrating first to 1.5.x and
fixing all of the container issues before upgrading again. Going from 1.4.2 to
2.0.x without fixing the problems caused the indexer to break, but made it
more difficult to find the problem resources.

I don't find a 'database.dat' file anywhere in my distribution or anywhere
that a file with that names is required. What error are you seeing and on what
step? Did you run the scripts/setup-database.{sh,bat} command ?

Hi Tara,

Hopefully the suggestions here on the listserv have gotten you what you need -
the releases page in Github
(https://github.com/archivesspace/archivesspace/releases) has notes and links
for all past releases and the current release - but if you need more help in
getting your ArchivesSpace upgraded, we can put a tech support ticket in for
you. (This is a benefit of ArchivesSpace membership - more information on the

For further details and how to apply see:
https://www.recruit.ox.ac.uk/pls/hrisliverecruit/erq_jobspec_version_4.jobspec?p_id=129976

The Bodleian Digital Library Systems and Services (BDLSS) at the Bodleian
Libraries provide digital services for the students, researchers and staff of
the University of Oxford.

We are now seeking a talented XML-focused Software Engineer to work on a varied
portfolio of projects led by BDLSS. Based in the BDLSS Digital Research team,
you will work with a team of developers, project managers, and archivists on a
number of key projects to enhance access and discoverability for the Bodleian's
world-class special collections. You will initially focus on developing and
implementing new technical solutions for post-medieval archival materials and
will participate in the scoping and planning of future work in this area.

Your role will include developing and helping maintain the Bodleian's growing
collections of archives and manuscripts metadata, especially its XML-based
catalogues, migrating XML-based catalogue records into new tools and
contributing to establishing cataloguing workflows. You will also participate
in related user and development communities and in training staff and act as a
resource for technical questions and forward planning.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of future
initiatives, including projects focused on metadata management and
consolidation, Linked Open Data, and innovative approaches to search and
discovery of digital resources.

You will have a degree in a relevant technical field, or equivalent experience
with structured text processing. You will also have a strong background in XML
technologies, a collaborative approach to technical development, and an
interest in and commitment to making the Bodleian's collections more widely
available to students, researchers and the general public. A background in
Digital Humanities or experience in working with EAD and TEI metadata
environments is desirable.

Owing to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to
undertake a Disclosure Scotland check as well as a financial background check.
The possession of a criminal record or poor financial background will not
necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are
judged individually according to the nature of the role and information
provided.

This post is part of a pilot scheme testing a new Supporting Evidence Form in
place of the more usual 'supporting statement'. You MUST submit a completed
Supporting Evidence Form and a copy of your CV in order for your application to
be processed. Please ensure that you carefully read the How to Apply section
provided in the Job Description, which you can download below along with the
required Supporting Evidence Form.

Only applications received online by 12.00 midday on Friday 8 September 2017
can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place in week commencing 18
September 2017.
