[Archivesspace_Users_Group] ArchivesSpace 1st Quarter Board update

2019-11-04 Thread Gordon Daines

[cid:D9C43C04-DF4E-467C-B0BC-358EF417F998]

Dear ArchivesSpace members,

As the new chair of the ArchivesSpace Governance Board, I am writing to report
on the ArchivesSpace Governance Board 1st Quarter meeting, a call that was held
September 27, 2019.
The operations report highlighted active participation by members in many
community events, including the annual forum and upcoming integrations webinar
series. The board was pleased to note that membership has reached a milestone
of 400 institutions and we are seeing increasing interest from institutions
outside the United States.
The financial reports show that the program's financial position continues to
be strong. The board updated the reserve fund consistent with the reserve
policy to reflect the increased budget.
Kat Stefko was recognized as the new board liaison to the User Advisory
Council. We reviewed the continued dedicated work of the Technical Advisory
Council and User Advisory Council, especially the increased cross-council
collaboration at both the leadership level and the sub-team level and discussed
ways to potentially further integrate their work.
The board heard from Erin Tripp, the Director of the new DuraSpace Community
Supported Programs division (of which ArchivesSpace is part), about the LYRASIS
merger with DuraSpace and how the various community supported programs are
starting to work with and learn from each other.
As always, the Board welcomes your feedback. Feel free to reach out directly to
me or to your elected representative. On a personal note, I am pleased to be
working with you as Governance Board chair this year. Having served the
community at different levels of governance since 2014 (including as the first
UAC Chair), I really appreciate how our community has grown and matured over
the years. I look forward to the next steps we take together.

Respectfully,

Gordon Daines

[Archivesspace_Users_Group] Volunteer for the next ArchivesSpace online forum

2019-11-04 Thread Jessica Crouch
Dear ArchivesSpace community,

We are currently looking for volunteers for the working group for our second
ArchivesSpace online forum! Planned for late winter or early spring 2020, this
event will build on the success of the 2019 Online
Forum,
which had over 400 registrants, participating from 7 different countries.

We would love this event to highlight the work institutions near and far are
doing to adapt and integrate ArchivesSpace into their systems and workflows. We
expect to offer a variety of activities aimed at building community connections
and contacts among our users. All ideas are welcome!

All community members are welcome to volunteer for this working group. We
especially encourage our Small and Very Small members as well as non-U.S.
members to join in envisioning the next iteration of this event. We will
schedule meetings and the forum itself in ways that allow for participation
across time zones.

If you would like to volunteer, please respond by December 1, 2019. And if you
have any questions, contact Jessica at
jessica.cro...@lyrasis.org.

2019-11-04 Thread Christine Di Bella
Hi Kara,

Yes, following the process for requesting a new feature in JIRA is described at
https://archivesspace.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ADC/pages/19202060/How+to+Request+a+New+Feature.
If you need help with that, feel free to reach out to the ArchivesSpace
Program Team at
archivesspaceh...@lyrasis.org.

By the way, if some enterprising person wanted to take James’ very helpful
plugin and turn it into core code, we’d be very interested. It seems like this
feature is already most of the way there. We have some suggestions for turning
plugins into core code at
https://archivesspace.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ADC/pages/349995159/Turning+an+ArchivesSpace+Plugin+into+Core+Code.

Hi Kara,

Yes, there is no need to initialize this plugin.

And, sorry, I have no idea how you might request this as an enhancement.

Cheers,
James

I wasn't sure if I needed to run initialize-plugin.sh on this, so I did and got
this.

Fetching: bundler-1.16.1.gem (100%)
Successfully installed bundler-1.16.1
1 gem installed

[!] There was an error parsing `Gemfile`: No such file or directory -
/var/local/archivesspace/plugins/static_pages/Gemfile. Bundler cannot continue.

I figure I didn't need to initialize and this error doesn't matter, but just
checking.

Correct. You only have to run that script if the plugin requires some Gems that
aren’t already included in that web app core.
That there isn’t a Gemfile in the plugin directory indicates that it doesn’t
need to bundle any additional Gems.
And when you run the Bundler, it’s telling you that there is no Gemfile.

— Steve.

Also, if I want to put this in as a request for an enhancement for the core
code, should I put create a new feature request in Jira the project ANW? Is
that the proper channel?
Thanks again!
Kara

That’s funny - shows how much testing I did.

Should be good now.

But – What am I doing wrong.
When I put html in the file to be included, it comes out on the page looking
like this:

This is a test

This is always a test

Tests are what I do.

here is a heading

This is always a test

Tests are what I do.

here is a heading

This is always a test

Tests are what I do.

So it is rendered on the page as looking like html code instead of the page elements. Hi James, Your original version will be useful to us, because we're probably going to want to add extra help pages to our staff interface for cataloguers transferring over from Archivists' Toolkit. And reading the static HTML from a file instead of building from ERB templates means they can be updated without restarting the service. Andrew.
