Re: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] Digital Objects: mailto in the File URI field?

2023-03-27 Thread Christine Di Bella
Hello Mark,

There are changes coming to how File Versions display in the public interface
in the next version of ArchivesSpace, so I would recommend checking those out
before making changes across all of your records. That said, it may be better
anyways to use a plugin or some other way to direct people to a single
destination for your digital objects, rather than use that field in a way
that's not its intent. Do you need published File Versions for these records at
all? Maybe the published Digital Object record itself is sufficient for your
purposes, with a more prominent note with the contact information.

Subject: Re: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] Digital Objects: mailto in the File
URI field?

Hi Mark,

I am not an expert on HTML coding... but out of curiosity, I tried adding a
mailto link in the fil version as well as in a note field.

I could not get the mailto to work in the file version either, but I was able
to make it work in a notes field. But since you are concerned about the
visibility of the notes field...

Short of messing around with the PUI layout etc. can you have a static website
page with the mailto link and other information regarding accessing digital
assets and use the URL to that page in the file version for all the digital
objects? Use the caption field on the file version record to put whatever text
you want the "button" to say.

Does that make sense?

Cheers,

All,

I have a question:

Rather than a link to a File URI for Digital Objects, we'd just like to have
some kind of Notice (exactly similar to the red box/button that pops up for
File URIs) rendering a single "mailto:; link. Is there a way to do this? That
File URI field does not accept mailto links, otherwise we'd just put our
mailto's there.

We tried putting something in the Notes field, but are afraid it's too far
Below The Fold for such a notice.

Advice appreciated,

Mark
