[ARIE-L]Ariel registration problem

2009-04-02 Thread Roberto S. Capungcol

Hello,

Good day.

Every now and then we're getting this message -
"Ariel workstation failed to contact Infotrieve server
to complete registration and/or verify your license"

I emailed Ariel tech support and Mark Blumer from
Infotrieve replied - "According to our records, your
machine is indeed registered and your license is verified."

Has anybody experienced or somehow having this type of problem?

The only solution we've been doing was to close the message
and restarted Ariel.

Thank you.

2009-04-02 Thread Kathy Wheeler
We have had that message and the only thing that worked was what you did --
closing and then restarting Ariel.

We've also been occasionally getting "Cannot find the database -- missing
DSN message" and we've had to go into the Control Panel, Administrative
Tools, Data Sources (ODBC), File DSN and edit that to add the password back
in.

Yes, we see this when our campus network is down. Once the network is back
up, Ariel contacts their server and fires up like normal.

[ARIE-L] Can you scan from the book directly into Ariel?

2009-04-02 Thread Susan Zeyher

Hello Listers,

At our library, we copy the article to paper and then scan and send it
through Ariel. Does anyone out there scan articles directly into Ariel
and send them? We are wondering whether it is possible to eliminate the
paper step. If so, what scanner machine do you use?

[ARIE-L] Important Changes at MIUMIC/HJ8

2009-04-02 Thread RIIN GILL
Apologies for cross-posting. This needs to reach as wide an audience as
possible. Please forward to anyone who needs this information who isn't
on this list.

Taubman Medical Library's Interlibrary Loan department (TML) and Hatcher
Graduate Library's Interlibrary Loan at the University of Michigan have
agreed to combine their interlibrary loan operations into one unit.
Hatcher will manage and operate this unit starting April 7 and assume
responsibility for all MIUMIC transactions.

MIUMIC will be a non-supplier for Monday and Tuesday, 4/6 and 4/7.

TML staff will receipt lending requests on Friday 4/3 and process those
requests. We will have those all updated in Docline before the end of
Tuesday. Hatcher will begin receipting lending requests on Wednesday.

We will continue to process any borrowing requests we receive from our
patrons through a cutoff point on Monday, and should have all of these
requests entered into Docline by the end of Monday night. We will
continue to process borrowing in OCLC until we are finished with all of
the requests we have.

Later in the month we will send out invoices for 1/1/09-4/7/09.

During this transition period, we ask for your patience and for your
careful attention. Due to some requests having been in the system for
longer than others, you may possibly receive more than one request from
MIUMIC on the same day, some sent from TML and some from Hatcher. Please
be careful to send the book or article to the requested address on the
request and not rely on an address book. TML will still be processing
incoming borrowing materials for requests we initiated.

Also, in upcoming months please be careful to send checks to the address
on the invoice, and invoices to the billing address on the request. We
will be responsible for all activity initiated through 4/7/09 or through
HJ8. Any activity initiated 4/8/09 or after, or through EYM, will be the
responsibility of Hatcher.

Beginning some time next week, my new phone number will be 734-763-6407.

You will be able to reach the new MIUMIC contact at Hatcher for borrowing
and lending at 734-764-8584.

All of us here in Taubman ILL will still have jobs here in the library,
but in other departments. It will definitely be strange not doing ILL
anymore. I've been doing it for the past 11 years. It's been a lot of
fun, and we'll miss the feeling of camaradarie between institutions. We'll
miss being able to help you out, and we're thankful to all of you for
being able to help our patrons, and for just being such nice people.

Feel free to ask questions. There's bound to be something I haven't
thought of, as we've just never done this sort of thing before.

RE: [ARIE-L] Can you scan from the book directly into Ariel?

2009-04-02 Thread Joe Ellison
We only copy when it's necessary due to conditions such as tight binding,
narrow gutters, & fragile materials. We're using a Fujitsu M3096GX, an 11x17
flatbed with an ADF. We also have an old HP 4c Scanjet for color scans, but
we rarely use it, as most of our material doesn't require it.

Re: [ARIE-L] Can you scan from the book directly into Ariel?

2009-04-02 Thread Barbara Syvertson
On ours, when we scan with the flat bed instead of the document feeder, we
have to uncheck something on the scanning screen. I'm not at work right now
to get the exact wording but if you don't know what I'm talking about, let
me know and I'll look at the wording from work. It took me a while to figure
that out. Also, when we scan with papers through the feeder, the Document
number, patron name and ariel address are entered before the scan. With
using the flat bed (scanning from a book) the info is added at the end. I
hope this helps. It really saves paper.

Hello Listers,

At our library, we copy the article to paper and then scan and send it
through Ariel. Does anyone out there scan articles directly into Ariel
and send them? We are wondering whether it is possible to eliminate the
paper step. If so, what scanner machine do you use?

Susan
