What does the output from /var/log/Xorg.0.log give you? Can you put

You would have thought so!

Try "yum groupinstall "Basic X Window System"

gnome 3 won't work as we don't have 3D support in the X drivers.
You'll need to use xfce/kde/mate etc.

Do you boot through to a console login ie do you actually boot to user

[fedora-arm] Fedora 17 v6hl First Compose Image

2012-12-12 Thread Sean Omalley
I tried the armv6 ([v6] http://142.204.133.82/tmp/v6/rpfr-10255.img.gz ) image
on a new 512 pi. I tried to install the
gui.. :)  It looks like it mostly worked. It just hangs on X. The filesystem is
there and resized, the kernel boots, etc.

I am getting:
[    18.919] (EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOBLANK: Operation not permitted in the xorg.log

It is having issues with the logitech wireless mouse and keyboard (i attached
the xorg.log file). The keyboard and mouse work perfect in the installer
screen. (however it is flaky in the cli, I had to replug it) and it is flaky on
armv5 even when the drivers are compiled into the kernel. Sometimes it works
sometimes it doesn't. I need to test to see if it is because i hit the
keyboard/mouse before gdm is actually up.

--

There is a fsck.vfat not found error after the gui install when it is umounting
the first time.

--

If you do a cli install. startx craps out. but you can login at least. :)
xinit connection to server lost, is the last thing on the screen. I kind of
wonder if it is attaching to the wrong tty or device.

---
It is also getting the mmc and other errors, but those were fixed on the v5
armtel, when the 3.2.27+ kernel. (I just installed a new kernel, not the
matching firmware..)

--
Otherwise I am pretty impressed with the progress that has been made overall.
It is looking good!!! :) ___

Re: [fedora-arm] round in circles

2012-12-12 Thread Peter Robinson
Glad to be of help. I probably wouldn't bother with cinnamon yet as
it, like gnome-shell, needs 3D. "yum install @mate-desktop" should get
you MATE or "yum install @xfce-desktop" will get you XFCE.

an ongoing basis):

PDT: 1pm
MDT: 2pm
CDT: 3pm

CST: 10pm

Current items on the agenda:

1) Current Problem packages
- Koji status, texlive, etc.

2) F18 Beta status
- Getting there. Thought is to ship and do a VFAD review?

3) Ownership of non-release blocking images (Beagleboard XM, etc)

---
I think this might be related to "xterm" not being found from a message in
strace which means it isn't initing xcfe, and going straight to xterms..

I tried symlinking the xcfe-xterm4 thing to xterm it got a little further (the
screen briefly turned colour before bombing.)

Seems surprising at first glance, but of course (a) the X server doesn't
have to be local and (b) there are multiple local X servers that could
be used (e.g., xorg, Xvnc).

[fedora-arm] creating F18 images for ARM

Peter:

The instructions for building F18 ARM images are on the wiki:

Example kickstart files for Versatile Express, Panda, and Trim Slice are
provided.

I will update these examples with the kickstarts used for F18 Beta once

[fedora-arm] Fedora 17 v6hl First Compose Image

2012-12-12 Thread Jon Chiappetta
I think I should have mentioned that firstly, I am missing a huge number of
packages because I manually unrolled the yum groups and also you have to
startxfce4 manually by switching to another terminal once booted. I hope to get
to another compose which helps to fix these issues. Sorry about that but thanks
for your time.

Subject: [PATCH 1/2] ARM: l2x0: Only set .set_debug on PL310 r3p0 and earlier

From: Rob Herring

PL310 errata work-arounds using .set_debug function are only needed on
r3p0 and earlier, so check the rev and only set .set_debug on older revs.

Avoiding debug register accesses fixes aborts on non-secure platforms
like highbank. It is assumed that non-secure platforms needing these
work-arounds have already implemented .set_debug with secure monitor
calls.

The one liner I mentioned. Two lines if you really want to be pedantic. I will
do a test build. Leave with me.

Re: [fedora-arm] Fedora 17 v6hl First Compose Image

2012-12-12 Thread Sean Omalley
It is all good. I didn't expect it to be perfect by any means. :)

I may have missed it. But how are you building these? I need the dev tools, at
least enough to rebuild the kernel. ( I need to hardwire my wireless keyboard
driver. It makes it less flaky...) Or can i just do it on the armv5 image with
different flags?  i don't have a cross compiler and such set up.
(and if you have them build already, no sense in redoing it.)
