[arr] My View's on Ah Aah!
This is a FANTASTIC album. I've read some reviews that were pretty negative and I've noticed a few things that seem consistent in them. One, it's almost ALWAYS their first listen that they hate it. I'm a huge music fan with over 1500 cds. I love all of the different genres of music. Rock, Rap, Hip-Hop, Lounge, but my favorite is definitely ar rahman. One thing I've learned with all of those bands and artists: You usually will not know what you think about ANYTHING on the first listen. I've listened to Ah Aah many times and love it. The first time I listened to it, I liked it, but not as much as Aayitha Ezhuth (I really can not understand why a lot of people don't like that album.) This is because they were all new songs. You can't sing along to a brand new song nor can you get emersed in the music of one. Why? Because you've never heard it before! Of course you're going to like something you can sing along to and know every single time-change better than something that you don't know where it's going. People just jump the gun too much with music. They are not fair to the bands, songs, nor themselves half the time because they listen to 30 seconds and decide if they like it or not. If you are reading this review looking for the true purpose of a review...to help you decide if you will like the product or notthen I urge you to give this, and all albums, a chance before you make an opinion on it. Second, and lord is this a big oneeveryone seems to compare everything to something else. I'm aware of it and still I do it. But, after a few listens, I try to ignore the past albums and let the new one stand on it's own legs. Don't say in your head "Well, this just isn't like." That is simply saying you refuse to listen to it any other way than what you EXPECTED it to be. Don't put this in, thinking "Okay.Is this gonna be what I expected?" Listen to what it IS. Hell no it's not what you expected. Why? Cuz ar rahman didn't call you up on the phone and ask you for your input. I'm putting it on the record ( I might get a few negative replies for this): Thiruda Thiruda and Dil Se are the greatest greatest album of all time (in my opinion, coz it covered a lot of genres in a single album.) No, this is not Thiruda Thiruda or Dil Se 2. No, this is not even Roja or Bombay 2. Stop comparing it to them. I think another reviewer on here said it better than anyone. If you compare everything recorded to ar rahman did in the 90's, you will be disappointed. So why would you do that? Nothing can top those album's or even equal it as far as I'm concerned. If you want Dil Se or Roja 2, then put the CD's on repeat all day. ar rahman finally answered everyone's request and gave the fans a return to that form. It has somewhat the similar lyrical style (obviously) and a near exact music structure. It was nice to re-visit those album's with something new but there's no way I'd want him to record another album just like Dil Se or Thiruda Thiruda. You know why? Not only would it just be stagnant and not let him move forward as a composer and musician, but it would begin to take some of what I love about Dil Se and Thiruda Thiruda away. I don't want to split the love I have for those album's over 2 or even more albums just like it. I have it to listen to forever and that's all I need. I know this is long and seems like I'm just ranting and raving about my opinions. Yes, this is a way of expressing my opinions about this album. But...I've just read so many reviews by people that are just ignorant. If you don't like the album, fine. But how can someone respect that opinion if you do it with such a closed mind? Pry that sucker open and stop living in the 90's mode. You won't find something better so move on. I know some of you want to move right on top and hit the reply button to say no and loads of shit and that my review wasn't helpful to you. Go ahead. It won't hurt me any. But I've read over this several times and believe this is very helpfulto someone willing to give something a chance. Peace.. I respect their applause more than the padmashree award. They welcomed us well inspite of facing so much difficulties Next, preparations are going on for a music show in London. Right now with the London bombings, don't know what is going to happen but everything should go on well!." >From Kodambakam to Hollywood..have you forgotten Tamil cinema? "Not at all! I've just sung a song in S.J Surya's movie..'Ararai kodi thamizharil oruvan. adiyen thamizhan ungal nanban'..that's the truth, even if I want to I cannot forget Tamil. I'm not able to compose for Tamil as much as before.Even my mother is bothered about that..she asks why I am composing music for the rest of the world and not in Tamil. Why do all music directors have strong faith in religion? "There is only a thread size difference between self confidence and arrogance. I have faith in my talent. I feel it was given to me by God. There is a story in Sufism. When a cup is already full, you cannot add anything else into it. With God's help, you will have to try and empty the cup. Once you start thinking that 'I am doing everything' then you will not be able to do anything new. There should be only two things in your mind. Once is God and another is ego. Both are like light and darkness. They cannot exist together." Which music director has influenced you? "If there is only one music director who has infulenced you then your music will sound like a copy of his. If you take the good points from different people and use them with your own talents then you can create something new. I like all good music." Have you heard Illayaraja's Thiruvasagam? "It is very good! Raja sir called all the music directors from the generation after his and played it for us. It was an unforgetable program. In our country, music has become linked to cinema. I see 'thiruvasagam' as something that could break that trend. While everyone was praising the album, Raja sir who was sitting next to me laughed and said if they would let him, he'd try to improvise on it even now. That is the beauty of an artiste. He didn't think 'I have done everything'. Folk songs are in his blood. He worked hard and always wanted to learn carnatic and western music. His achievment is that he has composed both western and folk songs for Tamil cinema. There was a time when there was no connection between music and morals. I have seen people who beleived that music could be created only if one had bad habits. It was Raja sir who broke that believe. He's the only one who is fit to do music like 'thiruvasagam'. This is the Illayaraja I know." After Vande Mataram, you have not come up with anything else like that? "I have a few plans. Something along the lines of our culture and traditions. I will talk about it when they are confirmed." What do you think about Tamil music these days, which music directors compose well? "I don't have the time to listen to much music. When I'm in my car, I listen to FM. Yuvan is good, I like Vidyasagar's work." Alot of people are upset with the Shankar-Rahman breakup. Have you heard the songs from Anniyan? "I did not do Anniyan because I didn't have the time. Breakup is a big word. I heard Anniyan. Harris Jayaraj has done a good job." Do you have time for your family? "Definitely! Usually I like to read in my free time. After marriage, I spend it with my wife and children. I am not able to spend as much time with my kids as my parents spent with me. They come to the studio..after saying hi to them I go back to my work. I take them to Landmark and buy them toys and books. Sometimes I take them to a hotel. I also take photos with them occasionally as proof that I spent time with them so that they can't say that I didn't do anything for them when they grow up. My house is my favorite place. I simply enjoyed every moment of the concert on Saturday night (Wembley Arena) and it was fantastic! Humma Humma was SUPER. It had the largest response from the audience in my opinion. May have been second to Chaiyya Chaiya. Was overjoyed when I heard Rahman say, `oru thamil pattu keppoma?' (shall we listen to a Tamil song now?) and of course some of the songs were sung in both Tamil and Hindi (e.g. Vennilave [aka Chanda re from Sapnay], Unthan thesathin [yeh jo desh from Swades], uyire [tu hi re from Bombay], Sakiye [Saathiya title song], Humma Humma from Bombay and a few more. Of course some were sung entirely in Tamil (sandana thendral from kandukonden, new , baba) but the majority were sung entirely in Hindi which of course I enjoyed a lot even though I don't speak or understand the language( e.g songs from Yuva[ayitha eluthu], oh humdum from Saathiya [originally from alaipayuthey], Taal [Thaalam] etc). The Bombay theme was gripping as usual. Was it just me or was Madushri struggling a bit in her first song? She was fine after the first song. Now to the disappointments My biggest was SPB's absence! Well, the tickets were bought by a friend of mine and hence I didn't know who was coming until the big day itself. So I was expecting Rahman's usual group of singers like SPB, Sukwinder Singh, Sujatha, Karthik, Janaki in addition to Hariharan and Shankar Mahadevan. All of Rahman's concerts have always had the above names and was quite disappointed to have not seen them. My heart broke when I heard Hariharan sing Kadal Rojave (Roja Janeman from Roja) instead of SPB. None of the Thiruda Thiruda songs were sung! Rahman's always claimed this soundtrack to be his personal favourite and so I couldn't see why he didn't have a single song from the movie. Also another additional feature in his concerts is the melody section where Rahman plays the piano whilst 4-5 singers sit around him and do a round of melodies. Missed this one. And lastly, the size of the orchestra it was much less than the usual 40-50 artists and understandable I guess because of the current situation in Mumbai. However if I remember well, his orchestra is usually comprised of foreigners. Nevertheless, Rahman's presence was more than what I wanted and will treasure this memory forever. Hi Guys Yesterday went to the biiiggg event in Burmingham, which was wonderful. Many people said the good points about it, so I would like to discuss about the things where I was disappointed. The lesser amount of croud I think a little bit disappointed him from the very beginning, I dont know, may be thats the reason why we missed the everlasting numbers like Dil se re, Jiya jale, Ayi ori ori ori, Oolala, muqabla, radha kaise na jale etc. The absence of Sonu & Sukhwinder was really felt while Daler & Kailash were trying to sing Chhayiyan chhaiyan or pagri smhal jattha or Chupke se lagja. I dont understand why they were so far from the actual tune, did not they had enough time to reharse before coming? Also Mere dil ka woh shehzada & a few more songs were sung by some of the local girls who were previously dancing on the stage in group with other songs. Suddenly, they started singing, is there really so much shortage of good singers in the troup, as those songs were also not performed very nicely. Humhai is pal yahan was performed by someone unknown named Ufsal and havent noticed the name of the lady who I think could not take the tempo to the upper strings in the lines... "rahegi sada yahan...pyar ki ye dastan.." I have to say, it was awful! Is it taken for granted that all who goes to ARR shows, most of them has to be Tamil? I am a bengali and can remmember each word of his each song by heart, even if that includes some non hindi lyrics (Jiya jale), But I went there to listen to some music which I really can understand & has enjoyed before in his other shows (Unity for Light, Calcutta). I was a bit disappointed when my favourite ones, like, Tuhire, Chupkese, Hummahumma & some others were presented in Tamil. But if they have performed it in hindi whole of the audience could have enjoyed it including the Tamil fans, isnt it? Though ARR was magnificent with Fana, Azadi & bandemataram. Is it true that nowadays he doesnot sing anything but sort of patriotic? If yes then we r really gonna miss a huge treasure of his tallent. Bye Tannishtha Yahoo! Hi All, I don't understand you people are more bothered about the review of MP and Ah Aah. One or two reviews is Okay. But it is more... See by now every body knows that both the albums are rocking. So please pour in your valuable suggestions on the Bangalore Concert, TShirt, Netru Indru Naalai Concert etc... I am not adamant. Just one word.. Awesome!! To see the great musician perform live was a dream come true.. Although there were few minor letdowns.. Firstly..missed few of the main singers..Udit, Kavitha and Shukwinder..but this is completely understandable as the situation in Mumbai is really bad! Also..some of the most important tracks..which I was eagerly waiting for.. Boys, Bose, Bombay Dreams and also wanted to see Rahman performing LIVE for the holi song from MP and Anbe song from AaHa.. But these were really minor compared to the Awesome show.. Rahman Rules!! Yeah, I would definitely miss Sonu and Sukhwinder. And by that bloggers comments it seems like there were obvious production problems as well. I saw these same issues in detroit 2 years ago. I am not sure why there ae so many technical and organizational lapses in these productions. I don't think we south asians aproach concerts with the professionalism it requires. No doubt the music is beyond words. 'Mangal Pandey' will thrill, excite audiences: Aamir IANS Aamir Khan Mumbai - Aamir Khan's new release "Mangal Pandey - The Rising" is going to hit the theatres Aug 12. It is a much-anticipated affair, not the least due to Aamir's new look with the handlebar moustaches and long hair. A few days ago Aamir was present along with the whole crew of "Mangal Pandey" on the music release at PVR Priya in Delhi. Bollywood Trade reports some excerpts of the press conference: Q: Apart from working on your looks, what were the other details that you worked on for this role? A: I read a lot about those times, did a lot of research. But in most of the books there was very little information about Mangal Pandey. The new look is a result of giving Mangal Pandey's character a proper sketch, so that it appears to be a bit more authentic. I performed as my director Ketan Mehta and storywriter Farookh asked me to do. Q: How did you feel while performing such a strong role? A: I really feel very proud that producer Bobby Bedi and director Ketan Mehta selected me for such a role. Working in this movie is like a learning experience for me, because Mangal Pandey is a symbol of freedom. Mangal Pandey is the name of that person who wanted to attain freedom at any cost, the one who symbolizes true passion for freedom... who had the spirit to do something for his nation. Q: Will you be working only in movies based on themes like freedom and patriotism? A: No, nothing of that sort. Mangal Pandey is not only a patriotic movie; it is a period film, which talks about a person who acted as the first spark of revolt against the British for freedom. Mangal Pandey had that fire in him, which helped him to stand up against British rule. Q: What is the difference between the characters of "Bhuvan" in "Lagaan" and Mangal Pandey? A: The two characters are very different from each other; one is a cool-headed chap, while the other is an aggressive character. For other details you have to go and watch the film. Q: Heard you have also sung in this movie? A: Yes, after "Ghulam" I have sung a few lines of a song in this movie too. All went according to the wish of our music director, A.R. Rehman. It is a song on holi, the festival of colours, and it is very different from the one that I sang in "Ghulam". It is because in this song I have tried to sing in melody whereas in "Ghulam" I just spoke out the lines. Q: After three to four years from "Lagaan", Mangal Pandey is here at the theatres; how much time for the next project? A: After "Mangal Pandey" my next release will be "Rang De Basanti". I am planning not to keep such a big gap, but, yes, it will surely take eight months. I am trying to give at least one movie a year to my audience. But I will do only one movie at a time, because I can't work on different projects simultaneously, I am just not comfortable working like this. Q: Will the Indian audience appreciate your effort? A: I am pretty sure that the audiences will appreciate this movie, simply because as a team we have put our heart and soul in this movie. Lyrics, music, dialogues, each and every aspect has been carefully studied and researched. Besides, the movie is based on facts. The audiences will be able to know about a character whose name is known to them, but they really don't know much about him. Hi Group, was browsing thru raaga.com and found that Aa-Aah has topped the charts just within 10 days of release. I remember Anniyan took 3 weeks to list and it succeeded after the movie was released. I had earlier said that the first song was nice and rest were too much electronic. but now after listening to it for 1 week now I take back my words. | | | | ALL THE SONGS ARE AMAZING. I was wrong Bcos I listened intially on my laptop which had a pathetic sound card. But one thing is for sure MP & A a -Aah songs are worth listening in a Hi Fi system and a low end system is not that comaptible.
