Live Ân exclusive New Indian Express BANGALORE: WeÂve had international artistes stirring the cityÂs music aficionados. This time, it will be IndiaÂs very own talented musician, someone who has created a taste for regional music among youngsters, once again. BangaloreÂs much-awaited concert is finally here. India Classic Arts (ICA) presents A.R. Rehman in the city and live in concert. Rehman will have people swinging to beats that have reigned the film industry across the country. And heÂs not alone on this venture. Adding vocals to his upbeat scores are some of IndiaÂs most celebrated singers, which include Alka Yagnik, Shankar Mahadevan, Hariharan, Chitra, Sadhana Sargam, Madhushree, Rajesh ÂBlaaze Raman and Kailash Kher. Joining them will be Alma from Bosnia and Ani from Armenia. Adding to this, this is the first live 3D concert where virtual reality embraces live format. The fact that RehmanÂs music has gone beyond Indian boundaries is evident from his forthcoming world tour. The concert, slated for October 8, is a part of the tour that includes London, Birmingham, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, United States, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. ICA is a US registered company that works towards promoting and taking Indian art forms to other countries. What started off as a dance academy in Bellur, was taken further by extending dance lessons to multiple classical disciplines and also to producing and coordinating events. With this, Roopa Iyer (now Senior VP, ICA) started Gurukul, which later merged with ICA to form a global fine arts production company. Roopa, along with Ravi Rajagopal, President, ICA, is promoting art for artÂs sake as well as for a humanitarian cause. Says Ravi, ÂÂRehmanÂs concert will lay the foundation for a social project in Bangalore called ÂNamma Mane (Our Home). The project will open doors for the mentally challenged and the senior women citizens of the city providing a home for the homeless. The company has set a designated amount from the concertÂs proceeds that will be used for the project and according to Ravi, it is anywhere between 10 to 50 lakhs. Tickets for the concert, to be held on October 8, are priced at Rs. 499, Rs. 999, Rs. 2,499, Rs. 2,999, Rs. 5,999 and Rs. 9,999. ÂÂThe idea is to reach out to every segment of the population by giving them an opportunity to come to the concert. With eight to 10 audio-visual screens ready to be set up at the venue, audience at the Palace Grounds will get a complete experience of the concert, no matter which end they are in, says Ravi. Rahman, Mundhra to work together Internationally acclaimed music director, A R Rahman has been signed to compose the background score for Jagmohan Mundhra's forthcoming venture, an English film called Provoked. I wanted to work with Rahman 10 years ago for my film, Tropical Heat for producer Ashok Amritraj. He turned down my offer then but this time when I approached him, he wanted to see the rushes of the film. After seeing the rough cut, he agreed to compose music for the film, said Mundhra. Provoked is a story on marital abuse based on Kiranjit Alhuwalia's novel A Circle Of Lights. The film stars Aishwarya Rai, Nandita Das, Naveen Andrews, Robbie Coltrane and Karen Shenaz David. Music is important in my film as the protagonist doesn't say much. Her inner anger will be depicted through the music. There will be only one song, which I will use as the title track, informs the director. Actress and playback singer Karen S David will lend her voice to the track, while certain Punjabi words in the song would be recorded in Rahman's voice. Karen plays an important character in my film. In fact the song that we are using is written by her. Her play, Far Pavilion in London is doing really well. Dude! Living in Ahmednagar, you can catch it in Pune maybe. There is a big south Indian Community at Rastapeth and even a proper Tamil audio shop. They might be having this album. It is a fairly recent album. hmm.. from my experience with these, after every concert, the entire group of performers has dinner with the producers etc. For the two concerts where I have accompanied a r r (LA, NY last time), he visits the dinner site for 5 minutes or so, and then leaves (because of his special eating habits I think, and because he may be shy). It is as if there is no other place for him except at the top. 1. "Ah..Aah" (A.R. Rahman): Even today, weeks after the release of the album, the song that is the favourite of youngsters is the one sung by Rahman himself, "Anbe Aaruyire". 2. "Ghajini" (Harris Jayaraj): This is a new entrant in the list. Like the film, the album also was eagerly awaited. The song "Oru maalai" by Karthik is the chartbuster. 3. "Oru Naal Oru Kanavu" (Ilayaraja): With the release of the film, the album is catching up. 4. "Kanda Naal Muthal" (Yuvan Shankar Raja): A very good album from Yuvan, though these days he is churning out albums like dosas! 5. Now await Aamir's next release at the end of this year. Yes, Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra is almost through with the principal shooting of RANG DE BASANTI [only a 3-day shooting is pending] and is planning to release it in December this year. "We are looking for a year-end release for RANG DE BASANTI," Mehra informs me, adding in the same breath that he has decided to release the film in the Hindi version only. Where does that leave the English version of the film [PAINT ME YELLOW]? "Though we can make a Hinglish version of the film, I'd prefer releasing the Hindi version only," he states. Yahoo!
