.I can't remember if I told you before that I had acted in a movie
called Provoked. I'm in some good company with the likes of Miranda
Richardson, Robbie Coltrane, Naveen Andrews (LOST), Aishwarya Rai and
Nandita Das, so what a treat it was to have them and A R Rahman in my
new music video, "Alive", which I co-wrote with Rahman in Chennai and
also shot the video over there too with the legend himself.

Provoked is based on the true story of Kiranjit Ahluwalia, who set her
husband on fire, after enduring 10 years of domestic violence. She was
charged with first degree murder and 3 years later released after an
appeal which was instigated by the great Southall Black Sisters, a
centre which helps women from ethnic minorities in particular, with
domestic violence cases. I play a supporting role in the film, a young
feminist, political activist, Asha, who is part of the Southall Black
Sisters. I got to wear this flaming red wig, it was great, and some Doc
Martins with 80's stylee acid washed jeans!! Ahh! lol It was a
wonderful opportunity to be acting with such awesome actors, and the
lovely director, Jag Mundhra. It was a double bonus to have co-written
and recorded the title track for the film as well!

I spent long hours in the studio with Rahman in the wee hours of the
morning writing the track, as he likes to work at night only, and this
is what we came up with. Hope you like the video. Please spread the
word, upload the video on your site if ya fancy. (Would love you forever
if ya did! lol) The film will be released internationally end of next
month and in 7 languages! Will keep you posted on premiere dates. The
song, "Alive" will also be available exclusively on my digital EP
release which will be out very soon. Just waiting for Rahman to get the
mix done! Oi Rahman! Come on then dude, step on it! lol

Hey bebes. Can you believe we're already in the merry month of
February? Spring is coming soon! :) So some of you have noticed that
I've added a live studio recording of "Carry Me Home". Much love to
Bombay Dub Orchestra for putting this lovely version together with the
Inklein Quartet and tabla genius, Sirish Kumar. This version will also
be on the upcoming iTunes EP release which will be out soon. Everything
has been sent over to iTunes for processing! lol As far as exact dates
go, I shall stalk ya ;) and let ya know when it's up as we're trying our
best to co-ordinate the release of the EP including "Alive" with the
release of the film I also acted in called Prtovoked. The film has been
put back a couple of weeks as Aishwarya Rai who stars in the film, is
getting married and they have to fit in with her commitments so she is
available for promo of the film. Oh the dramas, I tell you! lol ;) To
all my Asian fans who have been writing in a lot of the forums for A R
Rahman and I, I put "Shillong" up for you so hope you likey! :) Your
support means so much, thank you I can't wait

[arr] Sivaji-Film Delays

Rajni's and Shankar's sentiments coalesce
in one point
By Behindwoods NewsBureau.
March 27, 2007
This news is sponsored by www.behindbikes.com

As per the latest Kollywood buzz, the release
of the much awaited film of the year Sivaji
is being deferred as there are a few more
chores on the graphic front to be honed. Initially
the film was slated to hit the screens on
April 12th. Fans of Rajni all over the world
are eagerly anticipating the release of this
film as it has brought together the talents
of the top honchos of Kollywood.
  [Sivaji]
But as the final polishing of the film including graphics
has not reached the stage of completion, the delay seems
to be inevitable. In all probability Sivaji may reach
theatres by the last week of April or 1st week of May.

Meanwhile, rumor mills of the industry have been working
overtime to speculate on the next date of release of the
film. It is a well known fact in the industry that number
eight has proved very lucky for director Shankar. But
for superstar who is ardent devotee of Raghavendra, Thursdays
hold a special place for special occasions. Hence April
26th seems to bring together the sentiments of these two.
So…April 26th may prove to be the D day for all
Rajni fans after all. Let's wait and watch.

Sam, Well..Let me try to give you some benefit of doubt here and
scrib a few things. Firstly, of all the fan groups you will find on
web, hope you would agree with me that our group must be the only
one that has never discouraged criticisms right from the advent of
this group. Remember, all these happens after our group goes through
message moderation. You wont find this freedom in any other fan
group. I can challenge you or anyone to point me to any other fan
group on the web, which allows so much critical posts like our group
has. Credit for this goes to Gopal, who in a way I would say has
imbibed into the group, the humble gracious character of the great
man ARR himself.

You cant just go about trashing anything and everything that ARR
churns out, and still claim to be an ARR fan. It definitely hurts
this 10,000 + group, when somebody starts thrashing ARR just by
listening to some leaked Nagra-feeds. Its a well known unwritten
rule that we need to allow some time for any song from ARR before
commenting on it, since they are sure to grow on you99.99% of the
time. This happens because most of what ARR composes are the sort of
genres which are always new to our ears, atleast from an Indian film
music context. eg:- Sivaji's Sunlight. If it still begs to be
critized, this group is the first place which encourages that.

All this boils down to showing some diligence that is expected when
posting in a 10,000 + public forum like ours.

Sorry or the long mail, but I hope I got my point across.

Long live ARR and His Music.

Thanks and regards,
Nitin

hai, Cyril!

I do Design, Arrange(somewhat), compose sounds using Software and Musicals.
I play keyboard, rythm pad, triple congo.

  Answer: 01
As a programmer, i Do sound designing For a song. As a composer i should know
about these things. I learnt carnatic music for a year. After listeing to ARR
songs, i made my mind to do music. So its all coz of Our ARR!

  Answer:02
It depends on the composer to use The rythm programming fully or partly. Some
of the incredible sounds are produced only by Rythm programming and same in
orchestration as well. I my case i dont have any orchestra and big equipments
to do orchestration except i have only keyboard and PC. So Most(May be all) of
my compostions have rythm programming stands as full orchestration but no
orchestra equipements used.

  Answer: 03
Yes. Ofcourse i can do the whole orchestration. Please note i didnt learned it
professionally. I may or may not have professional Skills to implement it but i
can do!!!.
You please try to listen to my latest song and you can clearly get what i
have done. And it will be easy for you to point out and ask me about the rythm
and other related things.
  http://rapidshare.com/files/16726800/En_Intha_Paasammp3
Already i shared this in our group but i didnt found any responses.

Composed, sounds designed, Keyboard, Mixed, MAstered, lyrics, Rap, Sung by ME
and Female singer (humming only).

  Answer:04
Unfortunately, i didnt worked for any music directors.

  Answer: 05
I guess, As a composer they will say how the rythm should sound like. If the
composer have lot of confident with the sound programmer then he will leave
your part to you with no doubt.

  Hope i cleared you doubt.
If not feel free to ask me.
Please listen to my song and ask me questions by pointing out things, then
only your doubts will get clear.

  Thanks Cyril!

Have you worked for other music directors?
Do they give any idea of the rhythm to be composed?

[arr] Re: sivaji..

2007-03-28 Thread Ranojoy
I talked to him two days ago.. He says that he passed on the songs
over a month ago (so the delays are certainly not due to him).. About
the songs leaking, he wasn't overly disturbed. Said "we checked out
the songs.. it was in mono, so couldn't tell if it was the final mix..
you know, cds go around in the production.. someone must have just
ripped it and put up the songs online.." I did not ask about your
favorite questions, who sang Sunlight, or how many songs there were in
the movie.. AR likes this excitement that is generated anyway.

When I asked him about the release, he said "it's tomorrow right?"..
He has been wrong about releases before, because he is not always
aware of the dates. So even A R is not the based source for this info.

Video watch - Pray For Me Brother - Brilliant *Joginder Tuteja*, IndiaGlitz
[Wednesday, March 28, 2007]

A.R. Rahman has been known for his contribution to social causes. This is
the reason why when he comes up with just a single, even that makes a lot of
news since it deals with global issue of poverty that comes due to war and
terror.

As a joint initiative of A.R. Rahman Foundation and Nokia Nseries, 'Pray For
Me Brother' is a song that is dedicated to inspire people to eradicate
poverty from our world. Conceived and composed in aid of the United Nations
Millennium development goal to eradicate poverty by 2015, Pray For Me
Brother' has been imaginatively shot by acclaimed film maker Bharatbala in
USA.

The first thing that strikes about this video is the format in which it has
been shot. Unlike the 16:9 anamorphic format in which most films are shot,
the one for 'Pray For Me Brother' takes an opposite route as it has its
frames set in vertical rather than horizontal mode.

That's the reason why the music videos strikes in the very first go since
the entire shot taking gives a different dimension to the visuals that
appear on screen. Add to it the Black & White texture of the video and it's
time to celebrate a 5 minutes journey that is truly international appeal.

The music video takes the audience though a journey of a couple comprising
of a black man and white woman who are on the verge of a breakup. Traveling
on road in a car through the streets of LA, they come across number of
junctures that educate them about the essence of life and the gift of being
privileged.

On this trip through the busy and not so busy roads, they come across
various hoardings that tell the tales of poverty, suffering, war,
helplessness and lost dreams through the faces of underprivileged and those
who had lost their homes and families. Especially striking are the shots
that feature a woman holding her hands in a prayer with her empty eyes
conveying all that she needed, another woman holding the picture of someone
close to her, a child with a tear in his eyes and nowhere to go and a man
who stares in emptiness as he remembers about the world that is lost.

The essence of the song is to bring the feeling of compassion and support
for the underprivileged and help the poor by not just the materialistic
means but a prayer in unison. Lyrics by Rahman and Blaaze say it all as they
come up with a universal anthem that could hold true in any part of the
world, whether it was first or the third world.

Music of the track is simply phenomenal as it has just the right orchestra
in place which has a universal appeal while being truly western in the
manner it is set. The lyrics simply touch your heart while the rendition by
Rahman and Blaaze [in rap] is top class. Also commendable is the fact that
in spite of a message driving the entire number, 'Pray For Me Brother'
doesn't turn preachy at all and would be picked up by people across all age
groups who would love to play it on in a repeat mode due to it's soothing
nature.

Apart from the couple around whom the concept revolves, the video also
features Rahman for a good enough duration as he gets all passionate while
singing in the middle of a desert. With a rock star setting and a mike to
hold, Rahman follows Bharatbala's instructions to the T and delivers a
performance that justifies his standing as a top international star that we
have in India. In addition, there is a dance going on the streets of LA
which is typical to the city of LA and conveys what's going on in the world
today.

Overall a top class effort that makes you get into an introspective mode and
offers you reasons to think about your own today and what future may have in
store for you, 'Pray For Me Brother' is a spirited effort that needs to be
lauded.

It is great to see an initiative like this being backed by all those who
matter and a superb all around contribution by means of music and the video
only makes it further noticeable. Great job by everyone involved and hats
off to Rahman for pulling it off so well!

2007-03-28 Thread Thulasi Ram

hello mr.. mind ur words.. isnt it obvious that one should not give any
official before the album release? already leaked songs sivaji have created
unnecessary tension among some with respect to piracy and cyber crime. when
Gops or Vijay are goin to say some information then it will be on the net on
the next day for sure. i have come across the statement that said "sunlight
song is by a boolyowood singer" in two forums and they said that the source
is arrahmanfans yahoo group.

so, if the audio info is out, one would not be quiet but spread the info and
things would turn out to be against us. so, do u want this to happen?

vote for ARR is a NEEDED topic. rahmaniacs should take the initiative to
vote for ARR. so that is a meaningful topic.

bloggers response on PFMB is really needed. then do u want to share the
bloggers response on sivaji that is unreleased? i really dont know what
right u have to call those bloggers as stupid.

i would appreciate that NO additional leakage should happen with respect to
sivaji and the info should passed ONLY through official means.

u r in this grp from just from March 2006. there are many of them who are
the pillars of the group. as a brick, stick with the building. that's nice
for u.

2007-03-28 Thread Karthikeyamurthy J

hey guys leave it... sam is just expressing his opinion... out of some 11000
odd members it is not necessary that all the 11000 members should only point
out the plus of arr... there should be someone to say the minus too... he
thinks it is not upto the mark... so what... its his opinion... infact by
pointing out minus i feel we could make our HERO an EVERGREEN STAR... i ve
been repeatedly saying this... Its the biggest problem in this group... give
respect to what others think... if you dont like what he says... just ignore
that mail... thats it... dont respond to it and bring to the lime light...
by responding to such mails, more people starts reading the message... i
feel LAGAAN is one of the film of arr where BGMs where amazing... thats my
opinion... sam need not have the same taste as i am so he thinks
different... i dont see anything wrong in this... a

and sam a bit of thing to you... when you say something against ARR in this
group where you have so many arderent fans of arr, try to be bit polite...
esp. your mail on that bombay dreams was not very polite... i know you are
expressing your opinion but the same can be explained softly... just play of
words... i m not here to advice anyone... just telling what i felt... its
upto you to follow it or not...

Hello guys,

If these 3 mindblowing tracks are not final mix, Imagine what will be
the level of music when the cd gets released. IMHO, "oru koodai"
is not the final mix but its got plenty of sound effects and layers.
Each time i listen to it, I am tempted to improvise a beat on it. As
for Vaaji n Sahara, Im doubtful if they are not final, the music is so
superb with the flutes, beats etc. Also the tracks i listened to are
not Mono.

Cheers,
Niven
