A lot of people in this group have been mistaking Neethi for Tanvi.
The person who sang Mayya Mayya, Barso Re, Ni Mein Samaj Gayi and Ramta Jogi
is Neethi. for the SFO (Oakland) concert.

Neethi is a new singer in Rahman's team. She hasnt sung any movie songs for
Rahman till date. Maybe after the US tour, we might get to hear Neethi in
some of his movies.

I remember it was 29 th of December,2006.

As the year was ending to a close, we were all under pressure for
achieving maximum targets.

As i work for IT dept and that too search and seizure section(raid section
in normal lingo), u never know where to proceed next anytime during the day.

because of year end, most of the staff was on holiday and i was happy that
30th and 31st were gonna be holidays.

due to hectic schedule i was not able to buy cd of guru; which had
appeared in stores a fortnight ago. sensing that now it is just gonna be me
and rahman for two days; i somehow squeezed time to drop into planet m and
bought my copy.

as i was heading to office, i got a message in my office to report
immediately. I reported and came to know that i had to go to a raid( 
i.ecomplete SATYANAASH of my vacation!!) We generally have no option but to go.

it was a small drive from the office to premises, in zaveri bazaar.
cutting lanes, we reached into a very poorly lit building- the target place
was on 2nd floor, but to our surprise, our address didn't specify which room
on the third floor.

as we always have warrant authorised w.r.t place, we had to cover the
entire floor. the floor had two rooms,one locked and the other with some
petty jewelery designer having his factory cum outlet.

We occupied both the places and started searching for some Mr Shah who was
supposed to be there.

As i had to enquire his whereabouts, i went and inquired to other
neighbours of Mr shah. In the meantime, one of our team members came running
and told u s that somebody named tanvi shah has come visiting in adjoining
shop.

alarmed by the name, we immediately caller her in. we were definitely
curious.as the lady walked in- quite young, good looking and wearing jeans
and top- we started quizzing her and she was totally flabbergasted.

we had to take her statement and the responsibility came to me.i started
my regular routine.

i asked her the address first.she gave me the one which was located in
Madras. i was surprised. i said what brings u here then- she coolly replied"
i am a part of a.r.rahman's troop and we are performing live a day
after!!!"

now it was my turn to faint. being a rahman bhakt; i was talking to a lady
who was sharing space with my GOD! i knew rahman was performing(entire
mumbai knew 'bout it!) and it was difficult to lie on oath cause i
had  already explained her the consequences earlier.

i continued my quizzing bit w/o letting anybody what was going in my
heart. as i found a good chance, i gently said to her,' madam i am also
rahman's biggest fan, but surprisingly u have been at a wrong place in a
wrong time; so please cooperate and ill see to it that u get released as
fast as possible'.

she asked- ' what was the last album that u had heard of him'

i said - 'i buy ALL.infarct i have one right now- the latest one.

she asked me to open my bag and show me the cd. i was surprised  and
thought is it her statement i am recording or vice versa.. but still i
opened up my bag and showed her the cd.

she proudly showed me her name featured in two tracks as background
vocalist. i was floored. i was actually talking to somebody who had worked
with god. i just kept my papers aside and started quizzing her about Him.

it was very difficult to gather something from her- she was
tense(obviously), we could not talk much. but i gathered that

1. he is gentleman to the core
2. doesnt communicate too much-  'do yr own thing' seems to be mantra.
3. likes innovation- no ego hassles, absolute down to earth
4. he is really in"it". totally immersed always.

i could hardly gather more, as i wanted to free her at the earliest for
her rehearsals

i took permissions from bosses(n'ways she was not even remotely connected
to the case) and allowed her to go, but i asked her if i can mail her and
ask few of her experiences with Him for our group, which she happily agreed
to.

i saw the live telecast of the show on tv and she was right there. however
sincerely i explained, nobody at my house believed that she was our captive
a  day before.

a few days before i mailed her, and guess what - she has already sung in
Shivaji...

  In overall these videos i could feel rehman maintained perfection in 
singing... for he get easily accustomed...  (he is used to more foreign travel 
even in other days 4 recording etc...) & other singers must have gone tired 
without enough rest to begin shows soon & jetlag & also read in one of blogs 
here d blogger called this oakland audience as testing venue with maximum 
trial & error issues & referred other venues luckier for singers will ve enough 
time to correct all errors, sing better & technical issues too   ;-)

Adding a few points to Dinesh's awesome review, would be the instruments for 
Hamma Hamma at the very beginning of the song were kind of asynchronous, and 
obviously one shouldnt be expecting the same as in the movie, considering the 
complications involved in it.
   
  I guess the Sahana song was too high pitched for Vijay Jesudas, he found it 
difficult to keep up to Udit's Standards at certain parts of the song. 
   
  And sitting right opposite to Shivmani in the 13th row, it was amazing as to 
what he can do, Amazing drums. 
   
  Sukhwinder had a good start in his explanation of 'Nee mein samaj gayi', but 
went a few extra miles before he realized that people were kinda losing the 
energy. 
   
  Sivaji title song was amazingly performed by Naresh iyer, Blaaze 
   
  Finally one important part was that June 2nd in Oakland as per the city 
councils member's announcement is proclaimed as 'AR Rahman Day'.
   
  And a final question here is, was it Tanvi who performed the Mayya 
Mayya.? She was mind blowing

-->For the first time, Shankar speaks on A.R Rahman, music of 
`Sivaji`,and about the technicians who assisted him.   A.R Rahman , and the 
music of `Sivaji`.   Tell us about A.R Rahman and why your combination with him 
has always produced chartbusters? What is your favourite album from the films 
you have done? 
Rahman and me go back a long way, as we almost started our career together. 8 
out of my 9 films have music by him. We have perfect understanding and rapport 
with each other .He understands my need and the tune the moment I explain to 
him the situation, and he will go on giving me new tunes if I’m not happy with 
the earlier one. And like me he tries experiment and always tries his best to 
come out with something fresh. My favourite is Kathalan and Jeans, though it 
looks like Sivaji will become our favourite!   How would you rate Sivaji music? 
Even before the release, Sivaji songs have reached a new milestone, as Tamil 
and Telugu audio is rumoured to have sold more than any other film in south. 
When we met to discuss initially on the music, I told Rahman that I need 
extraordinary, out-of-the- world tunes, as expectations were very high with 
Rajni- Rahman- Shankar combination coming together for the first time. Rahman 
just smiled and over the months in spite of his busy international schedule he 
found time to do Sivaji and has churned out outstanding music.   Let us talk 
about the five songs in the film   Balellikka….   It is the first song in the 
film and shot in and around Wai a scenic village near Pune. It is a folk song 
sung by SPB and Rehana, Rahman's sister whose voice sounds different and 
appealing. Na.Muthukumar has written some meaningful lyrics which fits into my 
narration as the hero is coming home from abroad and he is overcome with 
nostalgia about the village he grew up.   Style….   My favourite
 number in the film! It was a challenge to do the song as it is entirely done 
in CG, and there were no gimmicks. We created a new software for it and let me 
tell you that I’m not boasting…. I don't think anybody has done a full length 
song in CG. `Indian Artist` did a good job, Pa Vijay's lyrics and Rahman's 
tunes were perfect. The CG work alone took nearly a year, and I’m sure after 
the film releases it will be the hit number!   Sahana….   Lot of my friends, 
say that this is their favourite. Everybody likes it as it is a melody; Rahman 
has made a sad and happy version. It is a dream song, in which Vairamuthu talks 
about seasons, so I asked Thotta Tharani the art director to create a Swarovski 
style glittering glass dome set depicting four seasons at Ramoji Rao studio and 
he did a wonderful job. It is going to be a major highlight of the film.   
Vaaji…..   A lot of unit members say it is going to be the favourite song in 
the film. It is a fantasy song and the first we shot
 for the film. Neeta Lulla has done the costumes for this song, while the other 
four are done by Manish Malhotra . Rajni and Shriya come as a king and queen 
with over 100 dancers in the background and a Babylonian type palace designed 
by Thotta.   Athiradee….   It is a very exciting song and picturised in a very 
stylish way. We have used some CG for it. I’m told that the song has become 
very popular in discos in Mumbai and Delhi where Rahman who has sung the song 
has an audience.   Background Score   We took weeks over it, to compose the 
theme music and did the entire background score in Prague, where Rahman was 
familiar with. The background score of Sivaji itself can be made into an album,

raiding a dark old building and all. And then the surprize! What an
